Hayden Panettiere’s Ex Brian Hickerson Seen in South Carolina for the First Time Since Her Sudden Death

Brian Hickerson has been spotted for the first time since the death of Hayden Panettiere.

Hickerson was photographed leaving a Burger King in Greenville, S.C., on Aug. 19, before later being seen in a car at his family’s home.

The 37-year-old’s appearance comes three days after Panettiere died at age 36. The Nashville actress was found unresponsive at a Greenville residence on Aug. 16, and efforts to revive her were unsuccessful, according to police.

A Greenville Police Department police report identified Hickerson and his brother, Zach, as being at the residence when Panettiere went into cardiac arrest. Brian allegedly showed responding officers a “bag of medication” Panettiere had been taking, according to the report.

The report also states that authorities had surveillance footage showing Panettiere, Brian and Zach “coming and going” from the location.

Panettiere’s official cause of death has not been released. Dispatch audio obtained by PEOPLE included officials discussing an “overdose” and “cardiac arrest” around the time of the emergency. The Greenville Police Department previously said its preliminary investigation had not indicated “any signs of foul play or suspicious circumstances.”

Panettiere and Hickerson were first romantically linked in 2018 and had an on-and-off relationship in the years that followed. Hickerson was arrested multiple times during their relationship on domestic violence charges.

In 2021, Hickerson pleaded no contest to two felony counts of injuring a partner related to his 2020 arrest. He was sentenced to 45 days in jail, four years of formal probation, 52 domestic violence classes, $500 in restitution and a five-year protective order. He spent 13 days in jail, while other charges were dropped.

Despite their history, Panettiere told PEOPLE in 2022 that she and Hickerson had reconnected as friends and that she was “trying to live in a place of” forgiveness.
