WOMAN, 48, DIES AFTER HOUSE FIRE AS EIGHT OTHERS ARE INJURED — POLICE LAUNCH MURDER INVESTIGATION
HOUNSLOW, WEST LONDON — A house fire that sent nine people to hospitals has turned into a murder investigation after a 48-year-old woman died from her injuries.
Emergency services were called to a property on Berkley Avenue in Hounslow shortly after 1 a.m. on August 19. Police arrived alongside the London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service as the emergency response unfolded.
Nine people were ultimately taken to hospital.
Despite efforts by medical staff, the 48-year-old woman died. Her next of kin have been notified and are being supported by specially trained officers.
ANOTHER WOMAN REMAINS CRITICALLY ILL
A second woman, aged 40, remains in hospital in life-threatening condition.
The other seven people — six men and one woman — were treated for minor injuries and have since been discharged.
But what initially appeared to be a devastating residential fire has now taken a far more serious turn.
Police have opened a murder investigation.
No arrests had been made at the time of the latest report.
POLICE BELIEVE THE FIRE MAY HAVE BEEN DELIBERATE
Detective Chief Inspector Neil John, who is leading the investigation, said officers were working rapidly to establish exactly what happened.
Police believe the fire may have been started deliberately, although investigators have not publicly established who may have been responsible or what the motive could have been.
Authorities have described the incident as isolated to the residential property, while acknowledging the understandable concern it has caused within the local community.
Officers were expected to remain in the area as forensic and investigative work continued.
CCTV COULD HOLD THE NEXT CLUE
Investigators are now appealing to residents and motorists who may have captured something unusual around the time of the fire.
Police are particularly interested in:
- CCTV footage
- Doorbell-camera recordings
- Dashcam footage
- Any information about activity around Berkley Avenue before or during the fire
Investigators have urged anyone who may have relevant information to contact police.
For the woman’s family, however, the investigation comes after an unimaginable loss.
One woman is dead.
Another remains critically ill.
Seven others have survived their injuries.
And police are now trying to determine whether the blaze was deliberately started — and, if so, who was responsible.
What began as a terrifying house fire has become a murder investigation, leaving an entire community waiting for answers.
Police have not announced any arrests, and the circumstances surrounding the fire remain under investigation. The suggestion that the fire was deliberate is an investigative theory at this stage, not a proven fact.
