Police were called to a home in the West End of Billings on the evening of August 23, 2026, following reports of a shooting. The residence was subsequently set on fire, and eight people inside were killed.

The victims were identified by their family as Megan Ghekiere; Landon Ghekiere, 15; Charlotte Ghekiere, 12; Chloe Ireland, 7; Owen Ireland, 13; Barb Smith; Dana Smith; and Evelyn Smith.
