FOUR PEOPLE ACCUSED OVER NEWBORN BABY’S DEATH NOW FACE ANOTHER SERIOUS ALLEGATION — AND IT CENTRES ON WHAT HAPPENED AFTERWARD
Four people accused in connection with the death of a newborn baby in Sheffield are now facing another serious allegation — one that focuses not only on what allegedly happened to the infant, but on what prosecutors say happened afterward.
Andrea Skopova, 20, Peter Horvath Jr, 19, Peter Horvath Sr, 38, and Nina Horvathova, 37, are due to face trial next year over the death of Baby S.
The four have been charged with murder, as well as causing or allowing the death of a child.
But prosecutors have also accused them of perverting the course of justice by taking steps to conceal the killing.
The case has sent shockwaves through Sheffield after Baby S was discovered at a property in the Wincobank area on August 30.
According to evidence outlined in court, the newborn was found wrapped in a towel and placed inside a blue bag in an outbuilding.
A postmortem examination later established that the baby had suffered 33 wounds from 15 separate stabbings.
The four defendants appeared at Sheffield Crown Court alongside a 15-year-old girl, who has also been charged with perverting the course of justice.
The teenager cannot legally be named because of her age.
The courtroom was heavily secured, with seven security guards and two Slovak interpreters present as relatives watched proceedings from the public gallery.
All four adults were remanded in custody.
The 15-year-old was also remanded in youth custody.
The allegations surrounding the case do not end with the baby’s death.
Prosecutors say the four adults took steps afterward that amounted to an attempt to conceal what had happened.
That allegation — perverting the course of justice — is now a central part of the case.
However, none of the defendants has been convicted. The charges remain allegations and will be tested in court.
South Yorkshire Police have urged the public not to speculate or share unverified information online, warning that doing so could interfere with the criminal justice process.
Two other women, aged 26 and 37, who were previously arrested on suspicion of murder remain on bail.
As the investigation continues, the case raises a haunting question:
What happened inside that property — and what allegedly happened in the moments after Baby S died?
Those questions may become clearer when the case returns to court.
But for now, the full circumstances surrounding the newborn’s death remain before the courts.
