A66 TRAGEDY: MAkAI SADDINGTON’S UNCLE HAD BEEN JAILED FOR A NEAR-IDENTICAL WRONG-WAY CHASE

MIDDLESBROUGH, England — A striking family connection has emerged following the fatal A66 crash that claimed the lives of seven people, including two Cleveland Police officers.

Aaron Saddington, 23, the uncle of 18-year-old Makai Saddington, had been sentenced to 20 months in prison just months before the fatal collision after driving the wrong way along the A66 during a police pursuit.

According to reports, Aaron was involved in a high-speed pursuit in which he reached approximately 100 mph and drove toward oncoming traffic on the same major road.

He later pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance and was sentenced in June.

A CHILLING PARALLEL

Just months later, his nephew Makai was among five young men traveling in a Volkswagen Passat involved in a deadly incident on the A66.

The Passat entered the carriageway traveling in the wrong direction before colliding with a marked police vehicle carrying PC Matthew Blades and PC Tom Clough.

All seven people involved in the collision died.

The two officers were not part of the original pursuit of the Passat but were assisting nearby when their vehicle was struck. The Independent Office for Police Conduct is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
