“THE PLANE IS ON FIRE” — EMERGENCY AUDIO REVEALS CHAOTIC RESCUE AFTER AMAZON CARGO PLANE CRASH IN MIAMI

HARROWING emergency radio traffic has revealed the terrifying moments firefighters faced after an Amazon cargo plane crashed at Miami International Airport — leaving five people dead and others trapped in vehicles.

“The plane is on fire. The plane is on fire,” a firefighter was heard warning in emergency communications obtained by the Miami Herald and reported by The Sun.

Another chilling message followed:

“Put your game faces on guys.”

The radio traffic captured the frantic response after Amazon Prime Air Flight 7598, a Boeing 767-300 operated by 21 Air, overran a runway at Miami International Airport shortly before 2 p.m. Sunday.

The aircraft had arrived from San Juan, Puerto Rico, when it ran beyond the runway, crossed into an area near the airport and struck multiple vehicles before bursting into flames.

At least five people were killed and five others injured, with three of the injured reported to be in critical condition. Authorities have not immediately confirmed whether those who died were aboard the aircraft or inside vehicles struck by the plane.

THE RESCUE TURNED INTO A RACE AGAINST TIME

More than 60 emergency units and roughly 200 personnel rushed toward the wreckage.

Firefighters were confronted by intense flames, thick smoke and an active fuel leak as they tried to reach victims.

The pilot and co-pilot were initially trapped inside the aircraft.

At least two other people were trapped in vehicles that had been struck, while rescuers also had to free a person pinned beneath a vehicle.

But one of the biggest dangers was something rescuers could not simply ignore.

The aircraft’s left engine was reportedly still running.

According to the emergency audio reported by The Sun, firefighters struggled to get close enough to the aircraft to attack the flames while the engine remained active.

Reports said the crew indicated they could not immediately shut the engine down because power was needed to “energize” the aircraft.

Firefighters eventually used water as part of efforts to disable the engine.

At the same time, crews were dealing with a fuel leak and the possibility of further danger around the burning aircraft.

A MASSIVE EMERGENCY RESPONSE

The scale of the response was enormous.

Firefighters raced toward the crash site as black smoke rose above the airport.

The airport temporarily shut down operations and issued a ground stop while emergency crews worked at the scene.

Hundreds of flights were disrupted, with more than 160 cancellations and hundreds of delays reported.

Despite the chaos, rescue crews worked to reach those trapped both inside the aircraft and on the ground.

The pilots were eventually rescued.

The airport later began reopening runways, although passengers were warned to expect continuing disruption.

WHAT CAUSED THE CRASH?

That remains the biggest unanswered question.

Weather conditions around the time of the crash included thunderstorms and strong winds, but authorities have not determined that weather caused the accident.

The National Transportation Safety Board is leading the investigation, with the Federal Aviation Administration also examining what happened.

Flight-tracking data cited by Reuters showed the aircraft leaving the usable runway area at approximately 129 mph. Investigators will now examine the aircraft, runway conditions, weather, flight data and the crew’s actions to determine how the Boeing 767 ended up beyond the runway.

The aircraft was a roughly 32-year-old Boeing 767-300 freighter that had previously operated as a passenger aircraft before being converted for cargo use.

Amazon and 21 Air have expressed condolences to those affected and said they are cooperating with investigators.

For the firefighters who arrived first, however, the investigation could wait.

Their immediate priority was simply reaching the people trapped in the wreckage.

And the emergency radio traffic captured just how dangerous those first minutes really were.

Five people are dead. Five more were injured. And investigators are now trying to piece together what went wrong in the moments before Flight 7598 ran out of runway.
