Woman Accused of Drunk Driving After Fatal Tesla Crash in New York

A late-night Tesla crash in New York has left a 28-year-old mother dead, with the driver now facing serious charges.

Alejandra Paharsingh, 27, is accused of driving a 2024 Tesla while intoxicated after a deadly crash on East 42nd Street.

According to authorities, Paharsingh was driving around 2:45 a.m. when the Tesla veered onto the sidewalk, struck a mailbox and crashed into scaffolding. Her blood alcohol content was reportedly measured at 0.229, nearly three times New York’s legal limit of 0.08.

Her close friend and passenger, Elise Suomi, 28, suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where she later died.

Suomi was the mother of a 3-year-old daughter, adding another devastating dimension to the tragedy.

Following the initial collision, Paharsingh reportedly continued driving for several blocks before eventually stopping.

Police said Paharsingh acknowledged consuming a significant amount of alcohol but told investigators that she did not remember driving along 42nd Street.

She now faces charges including vehicular manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident. A judge set bail at $50,000.

The case has raised painful questions about the consequences of impaired driving, particularly after a night out ends with an innocent passenger losing her life.

For Suomi’s family and young daughter, the crash has brought an unimaginable loss. For Paharsingh, the allegations could lead to significant legal consequences as the case moves through the courts.

Paharsingh is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
