FOUR PEOPLE ACCUSED IN BABY S CASE FACE NEW CHARGES — AND THEY CENTRE ON WHAT HAPPENED AFTER THE NEWBORN’S DEATH

Four adults already facing trial over the death of newborn Baby S are now accused of further offences — including allegedly concealing what happened at the scene.

The case surrounding Baby S has taken another disturbing turn.

Andrea Skopova, 20, Peter Horvath Jr, 19, Peter Horvath Sr, 38, and Nina Horvathova, 37, are due to stand trial next year over the death of the newborn girl in Sheffield.

But prosecutors are not only alleging that the four adults were involved in Baby S’s death.

They also face separate allegations that they caused or allowed the death of a child and perverted the course of justice by allegedly taking steps to clean or conceal evidence at the scene.

All four appeared at Sheffield Crown Court alongside a 15-year-old girl who is separately accused of perverting the course of justice.

The extraordinary courtroom hearing reportedly involved seven security guards and two Slovak interpreters, while 26 relatives watched from the public gallery.

BABY S WAS FOUND IN AN OUTBUILDING

Baby S was found at an address in Sheffield on August 30, shortly after her mother, Skopova, had reportedly gone to hospital.

Prosecutors allege that the newborn had suffered multiple injuries.

A forensic post-mortem examination found that the cause of death was stab wounds, according to prosecutors.

The court has also heard an allegation that Baby S suffered 33 wounds from 15 separate stabbings.

The newborn was reportedly discovered wrapped in a towel and placed inside a blue bag in an outbuilding.

The circumstances surrounding how she came to be there are now at the centre of a major criminal investigation.

THEN CAME THE ALLEGATIONS ABOUT THE SCENE

The latest charges add another layer to the case.

The four adults are accused of causing or allowing the death of a child and of attempting to interfere with the course of justice.

Prosecutors allege that the scene was cleaned.

That allegation is significant because it raises questions about what happened after Baby S was allegedly harmed — and whether investigators believe attempts were made to alter or conceal evidence.

A 15-year-old girl is also charged with perverting the course of justice.

Her case is being dealt with separately because of her age.

ONE BASIC QUESTION REMAINS

Another unusual detail has emerged from the proceedings: the identity of Baby S’s father has not been established.

Peter Horvath Jr is not believed to be the baby’s father, according to reports surrounding the case.

That unanswered question adds to the number of uncertainties prosecutors will have to address as the case moves toward trial.

The four adult defendants have denied the allegations.

Their presence in court does not amount to a finding of guilt, and each defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
