A family who was preparing to bury their 12-year-old son is now facing an unimaginable goodbye to both of their children.

Five days after 12-year-old Calvin Shepard was killed in a bicycle crash that also left his sister critically injured, his 13-year-old sister Karalee Shepard has also died from complications related to the crash.

Her family says Karalee passed away peacefully this afternoon, surrounded by the people who loved her.

Just days ago, her mother, Raquel, was still holding onto hope.

She had one simple plea for everyone who heard Karalee’s story:

“Please don’t stop praying. She’s not out of the woods yet.”

And people prayed.

They prayed for Karalee’s brain to heal.
They prayed for her body to keep fighting.
