WADE WILSON REMAINS ON DEATH ROW AS LEGAL BATTLE CONTINUES — HERE’S THE LATEST UPDATE

Wade Steven Wilson, the Florida man whose case became nationally known after he was convicted of killing two women on the same day in 2019, remains on death row as his legal battle continues into 2026.

Wilson was convicted in June 2024 of two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of Kristine Melton, 35, and Diane Ruiz, 43. A judge sentenced him to death in August 2024 after jurors recommended capital punishment in both cases.

THE 2019 CASE THAT SHOCKED FLORIDA

According to court records and testimony reported during the trial, Wilson encountered Melton after meeting her at a Fort Myers bar on Oct. 7, 2019.

Prosecutors said Wilson later went to Melton’s home, where he killed her and took her vehicle.

Later that same day, Wilson encountered Ruiz as she was walking to work. Authorities said he persuaded her to enter the vehicle before killing her and abandoning her body.

Wilson was arrested less than a day after the two killings. Investigators also learned that he had made statements to his father about what had happened, which became part of the prosecution’s evidence.

TWO DEATH SENTENCES — BUT NO EXECUTION DATE

Wilson received two death sentences in August 2024.

However, a death sentence does not mean an execution happens immediately. His case remains subject to the appeals process.

As of September 2026, Wilson remains incarcerated at Union Correctional Institution in Raiford, Florida, where the state’s male death-row population is housed. His mandatory appeal before the Florida Supreme Court remains pending, and there is no publicly announced execution date.

One recent legal development came in 2026, when Wilson’s attorneys challenged aspects of the death-penalty proceedings before the Florida Supreme Court. His legal team subsequently withdrew that particular challenge.
