MISSING GRANDMOTHER FOUND DEAD INSIDE SUITCASE AT KANSAS FIRE STATION

A missing Kansas grandmother was found dead inside a suitcase after two people brought the luggage to a fire station and told staff that a body was inside.

Lorretta M. Moody, 67, was reported missing in Wichita early on September 16. Later that same day, her body was discovered inside a suitcase at Wichita Fire Station 22 on South Hydraulic Avenue.

Police are investigating her death as a homicide.

BODY DISCOVERED AT FIRE STATION

Wichita police said officers were called to Fire Station 22 at around 6:25 p.m. on September 16, after two people arrived at the station with a suitcase and told firefighters that it contained a body.

Officers found a woman inside the suitcase and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman was later identified as Lorretta Moody.

Investigators have not publicly released her cause of death. Police are continuing to examine evidence and establish a timeline of what happened before her body was brought to the fire station.

SHE HAD BEEN REPORTED MISSING HOURS EARLIER

Moody had been reported missing in the early hours of September 16, according to police.

Her family had described her as a small and medically vulnerable woman who had difficulty walking and normally required oxygen.

She was last known to have been in the 2400 block of South Mosley, less than a mile from the fire station where her body was later found.

The short distance between the location where she was last seen and the fire station has become one of the details investigators are examining as they reconstruct her final hours.

TWO PEOPLE ARE BEING INTERVIEWED

Police have located and spoken with the two people who brought the suitcase to the fire station.

However, authorities have stressed that they are not currently considered suspects.

Wichita Police spokesperson Andrew Ford told reporters that investigators were speaking with the two individuals to determine how they came into possession of Moody’s body and how she ended up inside the suitcase.

Their identities have not been released.

Police are also working to determine whether the two individuals had any connection to Moody.

INVESTIGATION CONTINUES

Detectives have been interviewing witnesses, reviewing evidence and working to establish a complete timeline surrounding Moody’s death.

Investigators have also been examining other locations that could be connected to the case and searching for additional witnesses.

At this stage, police have not announced any arrests.

Authorities have also said there is no information indicating an ongoing threat to the wider public.

FAMILY MOURNS GRANDMOTHER

News of Moody’s death has devastated her family.

Her granddaughter, Angelyna Moody-Fletcher, paid tribute to her on social media, remembering the long conversations they shared and the way her grandmother would call unexpectedly just to talk.

She said she would continue speaking about her grandmother and fighting for answers.

Moody’s sister also expressed her grief online, describing her death as cruel and saying the family would seek justice.
