BRITISH DAD, 44, DIES SUDDENLY DURING CYPRUS ANNIVERSARY HOLIDAY AS HEARTBROKEN FIANCÉE FACES FUNERAL COSTS

A British father has died suddenly during an anniversary holiday in Cyprus, leaving his fiancée devastated and facing the unexpected cost of bringing his body home to the UK.

Paulo Brockway, 44, fell seriously ill on the day he and his fiancée, Kerry Debono, were due to fly back home after their holiday.

Paulo suffered a heart attack and died from complications the following day, according to his family.

The couple had been enjoying their anniversary trip in Cyprus when tragedy struck just as they were preparing to return to Cardiff.

Kerry said Paulo suddenly became unwell on the day they were due to fly home.

“Sadly, my fiancé Paulo Brockway fell ill the day we were due to fly home,” she said.

“He passed away the following day.

“He was just 44 years old.

“I am devastated and will miss him terribly.”

Paulo’s body is now expected to be repatriated from Cyprus to Cardiff, allowing his loved ones to arrange his funeral.

The family is facing funeral and repatriation costs estimated at around £7,000. Kerry said Paulo did not have life insurance to cover the unexpected expenses.

She has since launched a fundraising appeal to help pay for the funeral and bring him home.

At the time of the report, more than £1,300 had been raised towards an initial £3,000 target.

Kerry appealed for donations, saying that even a small contribution would help the family give Paulo the farewell they believe he deserves.

“Any donation, no matter how small, would mean so much to us and would help us give Paulo the farewell he deserves,” she said.

“I will love and miss you forever, Paulo.

“Forever your broken-hearted fiancée, Kerry.”

Paulo was remembered as an avid climber during the later part of his life.

His sudden death has left behind a devastated son, as well as his mother, sisters and brother.

Kerry said the loss had affected the entire family and described Paulo’s mother as struggling to cope with the death of her son.

“His loss has also affected so many people who loved him, including his mum, sisters and brother, who are completely heartbroken,” she said.

“His mum is struggling terribly to come to terms with losing her son.”

Paulo’s body was expected to be returned to Wales within seven to 10 days, according to the family’s appeal.

For Kerry, a holiday intended to celebrate an anniversary with her fiancé has instead become a painful period of mourning as she waits to bring him home.

The family’s fundraiser is intended to help cover the costs of repatriation and the funeral while giving Paulo’s loved ones the chance to say their final goodbye.
