15-YEAR-OLD TWIN KILLED IN NYC BIKE CRASH REMEMBERED IN TOUCHING PHOTOS WITH FRIENDS

Friends and loved ones are remembering 15-year-old Daria Serkov through photographs, memories and a growing memorial after the teenager was killed in a New York City bicycle crash.

Daria, who lived in Manhattan’s Stuyvesant Town-Peter Cooper Village, was struck by a commercial truck on the evening of September 18 while riding a bicycle with another teenage girl in the East Village.

The crash happened at around 9 p.m. at East 14th Street and First Avenue, according to police.

The two girls were traveling westbound on East 14th Street when a commercial truck attempted to make a right turn onto First Avenue. Police said the truck struck the bicycle as both were making the same turn.

Daria, who was riding as the passenger, suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead after being taken to Bellevue Hospital.

The other teenager, who was operating the bicycle, suffered a leg injury and was hospitalized in stable condition, according to police.

The truck driver, identified by police as a man in his 50s, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

The NYPD’s Highway District Collision Investigation Squad is investigating the circumstances of the crash. No charges had been filed in the latest reports.

A LIFE REMEMBERED THROUGH PHOTOS

In the days following Daria’s death, friends and family have shared photographs showing the teenager enjoying time with people close to her.

Images included in a fundraiser show Daria with friends, including photographs connected to activities she loved. She was remembered as an energetic teenager who played soccer and tennis and enjoyed cycling.

The fundraiser was created to support Daria’s parents, Irina and Alex Serkov, and her twin sister, Greta, as the family deals with the loss.

The page also included photographs from a candlelight vigil held in Daria’s memory.

Her parents described their daughter as someone who brought love, joy and energy into the lives of those around her.

They said her compassion and warmth had made her deeply cherished by family and friends.

The family asked for privacy as they mourned their daughter and twin sister.

A COMMUNITY GATHERS FOR DARIA

The night after the crash, friends, relatives and members of the East Village community gathered near the intersection where Daria was killed.

Candles were placed on the pavement, while flowers and other tributes were left at the scene.

Hundreds of people attended the vigil, with many teenagers coming together to support one another.

Chris Janssen, who helped organize the gathering, said the community needed to be together following the tragedy.

“She was just 15,” Janssen said, according to CBS New York.

Friends described Daria as a vibrant young person whose death had left those around her struggling to understand what had happened.

FAMILY FACES AN UNIMAGINABLE LOSS

Daria’s family said they were overwhelmed by the sudden loss.

In a statement shared through the fundraising campaign, they described Daria — whom they called Dasha — as full of love, joy and energy.

They said her caring personality had touched many people and that her memory would remain with them.

The fundraiser was established to help cover funeral expenses and provide support for the family.

The page also became a place where friends and neighbors could share photographs and memories of Daria as the community rallied around her family.

INVESTIGATION CONTINUES

The fatal collision remains under investigation.

Police have said the truck was making a right turn onto First Avenue when it struck the teenagers. ABC7 reported that surveillance footage showed the driver stopping after the collision and cooperating with police.

Badger Infrastructure Solutions, the company associated with the truck, expressed condolences to Daria’s family and said it was cooperating with the NYPD and other authorities investigating the crash.

For Daria’s friends and family, however, the investigation is only one part of the aftermath.

At the site where her life ended, candles and flowers now mark the place where a 15-year-old girl once passed through on an ordinary Friday night.

And in photographs shared by those who knew her, Daria is remembered not for the crash, but for the life she lived — surrounded by friends, family, sports, laughter and the twin sister who will now have to carry her memory forward.
