WADE WILSON REMAINS ON DEATH ROW AS APPEAL CONTINUES — NO EXECUTION DATE ANNOUNCED

Wade Steven Wilson remains on Florida’s death row as his legal appeal continues, more than two years after he was sentenced to death for the murders of Kristine Melton and Diane Ruiz.

As of September 23, 2026, Wilson’s direct death-penalty appeal remains an open case before the Florida Supreme Court under case number SC2024-1345. The court’s public case record shows no future oral argument currently scheduled.

There is also no publicly listed execution warrant or execution date for Wilson in the current death-warrant records. Florida law requires an execution warrant before a death sentence can be carried out.

TWO MURDERS LED TO TWO DEATH SENTENCES

Wilson was convicted in 2024 of murdering Kristine Melton, 35, and Diane Ruiz, 43, in Lee County, Florida.

The killings occurred on October 7, 2019.

Prosecutors said Wilson met Melton at a bar before going with her to her home. He was later accused of killing her and taking her vehicle.

Later that day, Wilson encountered Ruiz, who was walking to work. Prosecutors said he persuaded her to enter the vehicle before killing her.

Wilson was subsequently arrested and charged with the two murders.

A jury convicted him of two counts of first-degree murder in June 2024.

On August 27, 2024, a judge sentenced Wilson to death on both murder counts.

THE JURY VOTES BECAME A MAJOR APPEAL ISSUE

One of the central legal issues concerns Florida’s death-penalty sentencing law.

Florida’s 2023 legislation changed the threshold for a jury’s recommendation of death. Under the new system, a judge may impose a death sentence when at least eight of 12 jurors recommend death.
