TOM JONES FACES SHOCK EXIT FROM THE VOICE UK AS ITV UNVEILS MAJOR NEW ‘LOCKDOWN’ TWIST

Sir Tom Jones is leaving The Voice UK after more than a decade on the show as ITV prepares a major overhaul of the hit singing competition — including a reported new “Lockdown” button that could completely change how contestants choose their teams.

The legendary Welsh singer, who has been part of The Voice UK since its launch in 2012, will not return for Series 15 in 2027.

ITV has confirmed a dramatically different coaching and presenting line-up, with Cheryl and Aitch joining returning coaches Kelly Rowland and will.i.am.

Meanwhile, Alesha Dixon and Stacey Solomon will take over as the show’s new presenting duo.

TOM JONES’ SHOCK DEPARTURE

Jones’ departure came as a surprise to many viewers, particularly because he had remained one of the most recognisable faces associated with the programme.

ITV described the singer as an “irreplaceable” part of the show’s history while thanking him for his years on the programme and the memorable moments he created with contestants.

However, Jones has indicated that leaving was not his decision.

Reports quoted the 86-year-old as saying that ITV made the decision to remove him from the coaching panel.

The singer has also spoken about the circumstances surrounding his departure, saying that being told to leave a programme after such a long association was difficult.

The claims have added another layer of drama to an already significant shake-up at the ITV talent show.

CHERYL AND AITCH JOIN KELLY ROWLAND AND WILL.I.AM

For the next series, viewers will see two completely new faces in the red chairs.

Cheryl will join the panel alongside rapper Aitch, both making their coaching debuts on the current UK version of the programme.

They will sit alongside returning coaches Kelly Rowland and will.i.am.

ITV said the new panel would bring together different generations and areas of the music industry as the show searches for its next major vocal talent.

The changes also mean the departures of Danny Jones and Tom Fletcher, who have both been part of the recent coaching line-up.

ALESHA DIXON AND STACEY SOLOMON TAKE OVER

The changes are not limited to the coaching panel.

Long-time presenter Emma Willis is also stepping away from The Voice UK.

She will be replaced by Alesha Dixon and Stacey Solomon, giving the programme two presenters rather than its traditional single-host format.

The new presenting team is expected to bring a different dynamic to the live stages and audition rounds when the revamped series arrives in 2027.

THE ‘LOCKDOWN’ BUTTON COULD CHANGE THE GAME

As if the new line-up was not enough, reports have revealed another potential change to the show’s format.

According to reporting published in September, The Voice UK is set to drop its Rewind button during the Blind Auditions and introduce a new feature known as the “Lockdown” button.

The reported twist would only become relevant when a contestant manages to turn all four coaches’ chairs.

Under the reported format, one coach could press the Lockdown button and immediately secure the contestant for their team.

That would remove the familiar moment when a successful four-chair turn contestant listens to each coach’s pitch before deciding which team to join.

Instead, the decision could be taken out of the singer’s hands if a coach activates the new button.

The report has not been presented as a full ITV-confirmed format announcement, so details could still change before Series 15 airs.

A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT VOICE UK

The changes mean that almost every familiar element of the programme’s coaching and presenting team is being refreshed.

For long-time viewers, the next series will therefore look markedly different from the Voice UK they have watched over the past several years.

And with the reported Lockdown twist potentially changing one of the competition’s most familiar moments, the format itself could also feel very different when the new series arrives.
