TRACY SHAW BREAKS DOWN IN TEARS AS BREAST CANCER BATTLE TAKES AN EMOTIONAL TOLL

Former Coronation Street star Tracy Shaw has broken down in tears while opening up about the emotional toll of her ongoing breast cancer battle.

The actress, best known for playing Maxine Peacock on the ITV soap, was diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2026 after discovering a lump.

Since then, the 53-year-old has been sharing candid updates about her treatment and the difficult physical and emotional journey she has been facing.

‘I CAN’T GO THROUGH WITH THIS ANYMORE’

Earlier in her treatment journey, Tracy became emotional as she admitted that the uncertainty surrounding her diagnosis and treatment had become overwhelming.

Speaking about the repeated hospital appointments and the unknowns ahead, she said she sometimes found herself thinking: “I can’t go through with this anymore.”

The actress had not yet begun treatment when she first made those comments, but she has since undergone multiple rounds of chemotherapy.

She later documented the reality of treatment, including exhaustion and painful side effects.

In June, Tracy revealed that she had needed an emergency hospital visit after experiencing severe effects following chemotherapy. She described feeling extremely weak and struggling with symptoms affecting her mouth, skin and digestive system.

CHEMOTHERAPY HAS TAKEN A HEAVY TOLL

Tracy has continued to speak openly about the physical impact of chemotherapy.

By August, she had completed several rounds of treatment and said the experience was taking a significant toll on her body.

She reported dealing with repeated bouts of shingles, nerve pain, swollen hands, nail problems and peeling skin. Her doctors were also concerned about the effect the treatment was having on her body ahead of potential surgery.

In July, Tracy revealed another devastating setback after scans showed that the lesions in her left breast had changed shape but had not shrunk sufficiently.

She said surgery was therefore not currently possible and admitted she had hoped the treatment would have produced better results.

EMOTIONAL SETBACK AT HOSPITAL

The latest episode came in September, when Tracy revealed that she had missed an important cancer appointment after struggling to find a parking space at the hospital.

She said she arrived early at Royal Berkshire Hospital but spent around 45 minutes driving around looking for a space.

In a tearful social-media update, Tracy explained that the appointment was particularly important to her and that missing it caused a huge amount of anxiety.

She contacted the hospital but was told the appointment might need to be rearranged.

Tracy later thanked followers for their messages and suggestions as she tried to deal with the setback.

A JOURNEY SHE HAS SHARED OPENLY

Tracy has documented much of her cancer journey online, including her decision to cut and donate her hair to The Little Princess Trust before chemotherapy caused her hair to fall out.

The charity confirmed that Tracy donated her hair before beginning treatment and said the hair would be used to make wigs for children and young people with cancer.

She has also received messages of support from fellow Coronation Street stars and fans.

Tracy played Maxine Peacock from 1995 to 2003, becoming one of the soap’s familiar faces before leaving the programme.
