THE FINAL HOURS OF LITTLE NOAH WOODS — INQUEST REVEALS WHAT HAPPENED BEFORE HE WAS FOUND

The three-year-old disappeared from a playground in Suffolk, prompting a huge community search. Now, an inquest has revealed how Noah left the play area and what happened in the moments before he vanished from sight.

The heartbreaking case of three-year-old Noah Woods has taken another step forward after an inquest heard new details about the final moments before he disappeared from a playground in Suffolk.

But despite headlines suggesting that a final autopsy has revealed exactly how Noah died, his official medical cause of death has not yet been determined.

At the opening of his inquest, Detective Chief Inspector Matthew Connick told the hearing that the post-mortem examination recorded Noah’s medical cause of death as pending further investigation.

Noah, from East Bergholt, Suffolk, was being looked after by relatives on September 15 as part of what police described as his normal routine.

He went with a relative to an under-fives play area in Brantham, where CCTV captured the pair together.

The first relevant footage was recorded at approximately 2:13 p.m.

The last footage showing Noah playing in the area was recorded at around 2:37 p.m.

However, police stressed that the CCTV camera was motion-activated, meaning it did not provide a continuous recording of everything happening around the playground.

NOAH LEFT THROUGH A GAP IN THE FENCE

The inquest heard that Noah managed to leave the play area through a gap in the fence.

He then entered a memorial garden through an open gate and began moving in the direction of Decoy Pond.

His relative followed closely behind, attempting to keep up with him.

The relative shouted after Noah, but after approximately 200 metres, the little boy could no longer be seen.

Police were then contacted and a huge search operation began.

What followed was one of the largest community searches in the area.

Around 1,300 members of the public joined police, emergency services and specialist search teams in the desperate effort to find Noah.

The operation involved Suffolk Police, specialist search officers, the National Police Air Service, HM Coastguard, Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service, Suffolk Lowland Search and Rescue and the Metropolitan Police Dive Team.

People from across the community came out to search fields, paths, waterways and surrounding areas.

But the search ended in heartbreaking circumstances the following afternoon.

NOAH WAS FOUND IN DECOY POND

On September 16, Metropolitan Police divers recovered the body of a child from Decoy Pond.

The inquest heard that Noah was found approximately five metres from the bank, among submerged tree roots.

The water at that location was estimated to be around 1.8 metres deep.

Paramedics confirmed Noah’s death at approximately 4:31 p.m.

His mother, Charlie Peck, formally identified him at Ipswich Hospital later that evening.

THE AUTOPSY HAS NOT GIVEN A FINAL ANSWER

This is one of the most important details in the case.

A post-mortem examination was carried out at Addenbrooke’s Hospital mortuary in Cambridge.

However, the inquest heard that the medical cause of death was still pending further investigation.

That means there has been no publicly confirmed final medical finding identifying a specific injury or cause.

Police have also said Noah’s death is not being treated as suspicious.

The inquest itself was opened and then adjourned, with a further date yet to be fixed.

“THE HAPPY LITTLE BOY THAT HE WAS”

While investigators continue working to establish the full medical circumstances, Noah’s family has focused on remembering the little boy behind the headlines.

His family described him as a happy, cheeky and playful three-year-old who loved to laugh and giggle.

They said he was at the centre of their world and shared an especially close bond with his baby brother.

Noah was undergoing an assessment for autism, although he had not received a diagnosis. His family also said he had mild hearing loss and was speech-delayed, but was learning new words and beginning to find his voice.

They want people to remember him running, playing, laughing and enjoying time with the people he loved.

A FAMILY’S FINAL REQUEST

Noah’s mother has urged other parents to cherish the moments they have with their children.

The family has also thanked the thousands of people who joined the search and the emergency services who worked tirelessly to find him.

The scale of the response showed just how deeply Noah’s disappearance affected the community.

But for his family, the enormous search could never change the devastating outcome.

Their little boy was found — but he could not be brought home.

THE QUESTIONS THAT REMAIN

The inquest has now established important details about Noah’s final known movements.

It heard that he left the playground through a gap in the fence, entered the memorial garden and travelled towards Decoy Pond before disappearing from sight.

But one crucial question remains unanswered publicly:

What exactly caused Noah’s death?

For now, there is no official final answer.

The medical cause remains under further investigation, and the inquest has been adjourned.

As his family waits for the remaining answers, they are asking the world to remember Noah not for the heartbreaking circumstances of his final hours — but for the happy, cheeky little boy who loved to laugh, loved to play and brought joy to everyone around him. 🕊️💔
