“I’D GIVE ANYTHING TO SEE HER SMILE AGAIN”: HEARTBROKEN HUSBAND’S EMOTIONAL FAREWELL TO MUM KILLED AFTER WESTLIFE CONCERT
Danielle O’Keane, 37, was remembered as an “angel on earth” as family and friends gathered to say goodbye to the devoted mother of two following a tragic rickshaw crash in Dublin.
NEWRY, NORTHERN IRELAND — A grieving husband has delivered a deeply emotional tribute to his wife, Danielle O’Keane, describing her as the most beautiful woman he had ever known and saying he would give anything to see her smile again.
The 37-year-old mother of two died on October 1 after spending several days in intensive care following an incident involving a rickshaw on North Wall Quay in Dublin. She had been returning from a Westlife concert at the city’s 3Arena when the tragedy occurred.
On Friday, October 9, mourners gathered at St Joseph’s Church in Sheeptown, County Down, to remember Danielle, whose death has left her husband, Dave, their two young sons, and their wider family devastated.
“AN ANGEL ON EARTH”
During his eulogy, Dave struggled to put into words the enormous place Danielle had occupied in his life.
Although they had been together for seven and a half years, he said they had managed to build the life they had always dreamed of: a home, a marriage, and a family with their sons, Caolan and Cillian.
They had often wished they had met earlier, he explained, because even a lifetime together never seemed like enough.
Now, the future they had planned together had changed forever.
Dave described Danielle as an “angel on earth,” remembering her as selfless, kind, and beautiful both inside and out. Her smile, he said, could brighten any room.
“I’d give absolutely anything to hear that laugh or see that smile again,” he shared in his heartbreaking tribute.
HER WORLD WAS HER FAMILY
Above everything else, Dave said, Danielle loved being a mother and a wife.
Her family was at the center of her world, and she was always thinking about their next adventure together.
Her sudden loss has left him facing a future he never imagined having to navigate without his best friend.
“I’ve never felt pain like this,” he said, describing how lost and alone he now feels.
But amid the heartbreak, Dave found one reason to keep moving forward: their two boys.
He said his children were the reason he gets up in the morning, a poignant reminder of the family bond Danielle had cherished so deeply.
A NIGHT OUT THAT ENDED IN TRAGEDY
Danielle had been enjoying an evening with friends at Westlife’s concert in Dublin on September 26.
After the show, the group reportedly travelled by rickshaw toward the city center to meet their partners. Danielle was seriously injured in the incident and taken to hospital, where she remained in intensive care before passing away five days later.
The precise circumstances of the incident remain a matter for the authorities. Her death notice described her passing as the result of an accident.
WESTLIFE ALSO REMEMBERED DANIELLE
The tragedy has touched people far beyond Danielle’s hometown.
Westlife paid tribute to her during a concert in Newcastle, dedicating “Flying Without Wings” and “You Raise Me Up” to Danielle and everyone grieving the loss of someone they loved.
The band’s gesture offered a moment of remembrance for a woman whose night out listening to music with friends ended in an unimaginable loss for her family.
A LEGACY OF LOVE
As mourners gathered to say goodbye, the tributes painted a picture of a woman who found her greatest happiness in the people closest to her.
Danielle was a wife, a mother, a daughter, a sister, and a friend. For Dave, she was also the person with whom he had built his world.
Now, as he faces life without her, his words carry the weight of a love that has not diminished with her passing.
He cannot bring back her laughter or see her smile again. But the memories they created, the family they built, and the love she gave their children remain part of the life they shared.
And as her loved ones begin the painful journey ahead, one message from her husband stands above the rest: Danielle was deeply loved, and she will not be forgotten.
