He was only 12.

Xavier Taylor was simply warming up with his teammates in New Jersey on May 26 when a baseball struck him in the neck.

Within moments, a normal baseball day became a family’s worst nightmare.

Xavier collapsed and was rushed by helicopter to Cooper University Hospital, where he remained in critical condition.

Then something extraordinary happened.

People who had never even met Xavier began standing beside him.

Teammates wore No. 6.

Communities turned lights blue.

The Ben Franklin Bridge lit up in his honor.

And baseball families began placing bats outside their homes — a simple symbol telling Xavier’s family:

You are not alone.

Perhaps the most heartbreaking part is that another child is forever connected to this tragedy — the teammate whose throw struck Xavier.

But Xavier’s father, Greg, has said he does not blame the other boy, describing what happened as a tragic accident.

And through all of this, his family has continued to hold onto hope.

Greg once told supporters:

“My son Xavier loves this game. He will play this game again.”

No one can promise what tomorrow will bring.

But sometimes hope is simply a father refusing to stop believing in his son.

⚾ A baseball player.
6️⃣ A number worn by thousands.
🙏 A little boy whose name has reached far beyond his hometown.

It isn’t there for a game.

It’s there for Xavier.
