PRESTATYN, WALES — A family is facing profound heartbreak after the death of Samantha Natalie Phythian, known affectionately to those closest to her as Sammi.
The 35-year-old, who lived in Rhyl, North Wales, was found inside a van after emergency services responded to reports of a vehicle fire on Gas Works Lane in Prestatyn at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 4, 2026.
A post-mortem examination later confirmed that Samantha was pregnant at the time of her death, adding another deeply painful dimension to the tragedy.
As the investigation continues, her family has shared a moving tribute, asking the public to remember the woman they loved while respecting their privacy during an incredibly difficult time.

Samantha was formally named on October 9. Police also confirmed that a post-mortem examination had revealed she was pregnant.

A MAN HAS BEEN CHARGED
Thomas Matthew Hammond Bell, 38, from Rhyl, has been charged with Samantha’s murder. He appeared at Mold Crown Court on October 9 and was remanded in custody until his next court appearance.
A second man, aged 47, was also arrested in connection with the investigation on suspicion of conspiracy to commit arson and drug-related offences, according to reporting by ITV News Wales.
