COLLEGE STUDENT GIVES BIRTH ON GRADUATION DAY AND RECEIVES DIPLOMA IN HOSPITAL CEREMONY
A 21-year-old criminal justice student from Dillard University in New Orleans, Jada Sayles, experienced two major life milestones in a single day. Scheduled to walk the stage on May 14, Jada knew her due date coincided with her graduation day, but hoped to attend the ceremony anyway.

However, the night before graduation, Jada began experiencing labor contractions. Packing her graduation cap and gown just in case, she went to the hospital believing it might be false labor. Doctors soon confirmed her baby was on the way, and after 45 minutes of pushing, she gave birth to a healthy boy named Easton M’Kale Fuller.
Though thrilled, Jada missed her long-awaited commencement. She contacted Dillard University President Walter Kimbrough to explain her absence. Touched by her journey, Kimbrough visited her hospital room the following day dressed in full academic regalia. Surrounded by her family, Kimbrough recreated the ceremony right at her bedside, officially presenting Jada with her degree while she cradled her newborn son.

Throughout her senior year, Jada had persevered through severe morning sickness and physical challenges to complete her degree. President Kimbrough commended her remarkable dedication and resilience. Now holding both her newborn and her diploma, Jada looks forward to pursuing a career in law, having turned an unexpected turn of events into an unforgettable double celebration of maternal joy and academic success.
