Scottish Tartan Army Fans Turn World Cup Trip Into A Gift For Providence, Raising Nearly $30,000 To Thank A City That Welcomed Thousands With Open Arms

Most football fans travel to support their team. But when Scotland’s supporters arrived for the 2026 World Cup, they ended up supporting an entire community.

Known worldwide as the Tartan Army, Scottish fans have long been admired not only for their passion, but also for their warmth, humor, and generosity. When thousands traveled to the United States, many planned to stay near Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. However, with hotel prices rising sharply, many found accommodation in nearby Providence, Rhode Island.

What began as a practical choice soon became something far more meaningful.

In Providence, the fans were welcomed by local residents, police officers, firefighters, city officials, and members of the local Tartan Army. Everywhere they went, they found kindness, hospitality, and people eager to make them feel at home.

After Scotland defeated Haiti 1-0 on June 13, the fans had every reason to celebrate. But instead of only enjoying the victory, they chose to give back.

Together, they raised nearly $30,000 for local causes, including support for the cancer unit at Hasbro Children’s Hospital, a youth soccer program for underprivileged children in Rhode Island, and a fundraising effort connected to Scottish mental health services.

The donations were presented during the Tartan Army Downtown March and music festival in Providence, turning a football celebration into a powerful act of gratitude.

For the city, it was an unforgettable gesture. For the Scottish fans, it was simply the right thing to do.

In a tournament filled with goals and headlines, the Tartan Army reminded everyone that the greatest victories sometimes happen far from the pitch, in the lives touched along the way.
