A wave of social-media posts has recently claimed that Jamie Varley was attacked or stabbed inside prison, reigniting attention on the Preston Davey case.

But the prison-attack claim has been debunked.

The UK’s Ministry of Justice confirmed that Varley had not been attacked in prison, according to independent fact-checking by Full Fact. Claims circulating online about him being stabbed were therefore not supported by the official record.

 WHAT IS CONFIRMED?

Jamie Varley was convicted of murdering 13-month-old Preston Davey.

The court heard extensive evidence concerning the injuries suffered by Preston while he was in the care of Varley and his partner.

Varley was subsequently given a whole-life order, meaning he will remain imprisoned for the rest of his life and is not eligible for ordinary parole release.

 SO WHERE DID THE PRISON STORY COME FROM?

Online posts began circulating claims that Varley had been attacked inside prison, with some versions adding increasingly graphic details.

However, those details were not confirmed by the Ministry of Justice.
