A NEWBORN BABY’S DEATH HAS NOW PUT AN ENTIRE FAMILY IN THE DOCK — AND THE FOUR ADULTS FACING MURDER CHARGES ARE ALL CONNECTED BY ONE FAMILY TIE

A newborn baby girl is at the center of a devastating Sheffield court case — and four adults accused in connection with her death are bound together by the same family relationship.

Andrea Skopova, 20, has appeared in court alongside Peter Horvath Jr, 19, and his parents, Peter Horvath Sr, 38, and Nina Horvathova, 37.

All four are Slovakian nationals.

And according to prosecutors, the connection between them is simple:

Skopova is the girlfriend of Peter Horvath Jr — and Jr is the son of Peter Horvath Sr and Nina Horvathova.

But the case contains another extraordinary detail.

Peter Horvath Jr is not believed to be Baby S’s father.

The identity of the newborn’s father remains unknown.

A BABY BORN JUST HOURS BEFORE THE POLICE ALERT

Baby S was born at around 37 weeks in the early hours of Sunday, August 30, at an address in Sheffield.

Shortly afterwards, Skopova went to hospital.

Medical staff became concerned about the whereabouts and welfare of the newborn and alerted police shortly after 5 a.m.

Officers initially attended the property but did not find the baby.

They later searched another address in Holywell Heights, where they discovered the infant in an outbuilding.

The court was told that Baby S had suffered 33 injuries from 15 separate stabbings.

A doctor concluded that she had been alive when the injuries were inflicted, prosecutors said.

FOUR ADULTS, ONE FAMILY CONNECTION

The charges have now placed four adults from the same connected family group in the dock.

Skopova faces the charges alongside her boyfriend, Peter Horvath Jr.

Horvath Jr is the son of Peter Horvath Sr and Nina Horvathova, who are also defendants.

All four are accused of murder.

They also face charges of causing or allowing the death of a child and perverting the course of justice.

The latter allegation relates to steps prosecutors say were taken to conceal what happened, including the alleged cleaning of the crime scene.

A FIFTH PERSON IS ALSO CHARGED

The case does not stop with the four adults.

A 15-year-old girl, who cannot legally be named because of her age, has separately been charged with perverting the course of justice.

She appeared alongside the adults and was remanded in custody.

Two other women, aged 26 and 37, were also arrested on suspicion of murder but remain on bail while the investigation continues.

THE COURTROOM WAS FILLED WITH FAMILY

When the defendants appeared at Sheffield Crown Court, the courtroom was packed with relatives.

Twenty-six members of their family watched proceedings from the public gallery.

Skopova and the 15-year-old girl were reported to have sobbed during the hearing.

All five defendants were remanded in custody.

The next hearing is scheduled for October 2, while the murder trial is due to begin on April 12, 2027 and is expected to last six to seven weeks.

THE BABY’S FATHER REMAINS UNKNOWN

Among the most striking details revealed in court was something that might normally seem fundamental in a case involving a newborn.

The identity of Baby S’s father is still unknown.

Prosecutors specifically told the court that Skopova is the baby’s mother, while Peter Horvath Jr — despite being her boyfriend — is not believed to be the father.

That leaves investigators and the court facing a case involving a newborn whose family circumstances remain only partly established.

AN INVESTIGATION THAT IS STILL DEVELOPING

South Yorkshire Police have described the investigation as complex and urged the public not to speculate or share information that could prejudice the legal proceedings.

The Crown Prosecution Service has also stressed that the charges are allegations and that every defendant has the right to a fair trial.

No one has been convicted in connection with Baby S’s death.

But as investigators continue examining the evidence, the central question remains:

How did a newborn baby come to be at the center of a case involving four adults connected through one family — and a fifth person accused of helping conceal what happened?

The answers will ultimately have to come in court.
