“I DIDN’T WANT TO LEAVE”: SIR TOM JONES DROPPED FROM THE VOICE UK AFTER 13 SEASONS AS ITV’S SHOCK SHAKE-UP LEAVES FANS STUNNED

Sir Tom Jones is leaving The Voice UK after 13 seasons as a coach — but the 86-year-old music legend insists walking away was never his choice. ITV has now officially unveiled a dramatically different line-up for the next series.

For Sir Tom Jones, the red chair was apparently not something he was ready to give up.

The Welsh music icon revealed earlier this week that he did not want to leave The Voice UK, saying he still loved the show and appreciated its audience.

According to Jones, ITV had already made the decision to remove him from the coaching panel, but he was only informed recently.

He said the reason given to him involved “financial difficulty with insurance.”

The singer also claimed that ITV subsequently described the change as an attempt to “refresh” the programme — meaning there would no longer be a chair available for him.

And Jones made it clear that he was not happy with the alternative offered to him.

He said he was offered a much smaller role involving appearances without being involved from the beginning of the competition.

For a coach who had become one of the defining faces of the programme, that was not enough.

Jones first joined The Voice UK when the show launched in 2012.

Although he was absent for one season, he returned and went on to become one of the programme’s longest-serving coaches, appearing as a full-time coach in 13 of its first 14 seasons.

Over the years, he shared the famous red chairs with some of the biggest names in music and helped mentor contestants who went on to win the competition.

He coached three winners: Leanne Mitchell, Ruti Olajugbagbe and Anthonia Edwards.

For millions of viewers, his presence became part of the identity of the show itself.

Now, that era is coming to an end.

ITV HAS NOW CONFIRMED THE NEW LINE-UP

ITV officially announced its Series 15 line-up on September 11.

And it is almost unrecognisable from the current panel.

Cheryl and rapper Aitch will make their coaching debuts, joining returning coach Kelly Rowland and long-standing The Voice UK star will.i.am.

Meanwhile, Alesha Dixon and Stacey Solomon will take over hosting duties.

ITV described the changes as a new chapter for the programme and thanked Sir Tom for his years on the show.

The broadcaster called him “irreplaceable” and praised the “countless incredible and unforgettable moments” he brought to the competition.

Series 15 is scheduled to air in 2027.

BUT THE DOOR MAY NOT BE COMPLETELY CLOSED

There is one intriguing detail in ITV’s statement.

Although Jones will no longer be a full-time coach, the show has said it is still in discussions with the singer and his team about possible involvement in the next series.

That leaves open the possibility that viewers could see him again — just not in the familiar red chair he occupied for so many years.

But whether Jones would actually want such a reduced role remains another question.
