11-MONTH-OLD GRAYSON WALTON FOUND DEAD AFTER DISAPPEARING — 19-YEAR-OLD CAREGIVER CHARGED

An 11-month-old Kentucky boy who was reported missing over the weekend was found dead hours later, turning a desperate search into a heartbreaking investigation. Now, a 19-year-old man who was reportedly caring for the baby has been arrested and charged.

Little Grayson Walton was reported missing in the Cleaton community of Muhlenberg County, Kentucky, after his father became concerned about his whereabouts.

According to police, Grayson was supposed to be in the care of 19-year-old Elijah Mayes while his father was at work.

The case quickly sparked an urgent investigation involving local and regional law enforcement agencies.

But the search ended in tragedy.

Grayson was found deceased at a residence in Cleaton, according to authorities and family members. Investigators had obtained a search warrant for the property after information placed Mayes and the baby there.

The discovery came only hours after the child was reported missing.

Police said officers were called to a reported disturbance in Cleaton at approximately 5:10 p.m. Saturday.

Investigators spoke with Grayson’s father, who told them his infant son was supposed to have been under Mayes’ care while he was working.

According to police, Mayes initially told investigators that a family friend had picked up Grayson around 10 p.m. the previous night.

Investigators contacted the woman he identified.

She reportedly told police that she had not picked up the baby.

A relative also told investigators that they had seen Mayes with Grayson the previous day at another location in Cleaton.

Those conflicting accounts led investigators to obtain additional search warrants.

The second search ultimately led authorities to the location where Grayson’s body was discovered.

Mayes has since been arrested and faces several serious charges, including murder, first-degree criminal abuse, tampering with physical evidence, abuse of a corpse and possession of methamphetamine, according to court records reported by local and national outlets.

He is being held on a $1 million cash-only bond.

More than 15 law-enforcement agencies, including the FBI, have reportedly assisted with the investigation.

Authorities have not publicly released a detailed explanation of exactly what happened to Grayson or disclosed a cause of death.

The investigation remains active, and officials have said additional information will be released when appropriate.

A FAMILY LEFT HEARTBROKEN

For Grayson’s loved ones, the case began with hope.

An 11-month-old baby was missing, and family members desperately wanted to believe he would be found safe.

Instead, their search ended with devastating news.

Grayson was only weeks away from his first birthday.

His family has urged people not to speculate about the circumstances surrounding his death while investigators continue working to establish exactly what happened.

The heartbreaking questions now facing investigators are no longer simply about where Grayson went.

They are about what happened during the final hours of his short life — and why.

As the investigation continues, the community is left mourning a baby who never had the chance to celebrate his first birthday.
