FAMILY MOURNS LITTLE GIRL WHO WAS TAKEN TOO SOON

A Kentucky family is facing unimaginable heartbreak after 4-year-old Hellayna Michelle “Layna” King died in a tragic tractor accident — just weeks before her fifth birthday.

Layna was involved in the accident on September 2, 2026, on Red River Road in Clark County, Kentucky, according to Clark County Coroner Neal Oliver. Officials said she had been riding on the back of a family tractor when she fell and was accidentally run over.

SHE WAS SO CLOSE TO TURNING FIVE

Layna would have celebrated her fifth birthday on October 5.

Instead of preparing for a little girl’s birthday, her family was forced to say goodbye.

Her aunt, LaDonna Lovings, described Layna as the family’s “sunshine” and spoke about the devastating loss of a child who brought happiness to everyone around her.

According to her obituary, Layna was a bright and lively little girl who loved being outdoors, spending time on her grandparents’ farm and helping with farm activities.

She especially loved the cows.

She also loved to sing, filling the family’s days with her sweet voice and joyful spirit.

 “FULL OF LIFE”

He family remembered her as a little girl who embraced every moment.

Whether she was outside playing, helping on the farm or singing one of her favorite songs, Layna was described as full of energy and happiness.

Those ordinary childhood moments have now become treasured memories for the people who loved her most.

“Words can’t express how much we miss her,” Lovings said, reflecting on the family’s devastating loss.

A FAMILY LEFT WITH QUESTIONS

The tragedy also brought renewed attention to road access in the area.

Lovings said a nearby road closure meant emergency responders faced a significantly longer route to reach the family. She said the alternative journey took about 45 minutes, and wondered whether a bridge that would have shortened the trip might have made a difference.

Officials have said CSX Transportation and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet are working to finalize plans for a new bridge in the area.

Layna’s family has since turned its focus toward remembering the little girl they loved and helping one another through the unimaginable grief.

A fundraiser was also established to help with an urn and other family expenses.

Layna’s life lasted only four years, but her family says the joy she brought into their lives will remain with them.

She should have been getting ready for her fifth birthday.

Instead, the family is holding onto photographs, memories, songs and the moments they shared with their little “sunshine.”

Her life was far too short — but the love surrounding her will not disappear.
