A WILDFIRE REVEALED A SECRET — MISSING MOM JOANNE SHEEN IDENTIFIED SEVEN YEARS AFTER SHE VANISHED

For nearly seven years, Joanne Sheen’s family had been waiting for answers.

Now, police have confirmed that human remains discovered in a London woodland after a wildfire belong to the missing mother of three — and detectives are investigating her death as murder.

Joanne, who was 44 when she disappeared, had not been seen since December 5, 2019, when she traveled from Fareham, Hampshire, toward her home city of Southampton.

Her family reported her missing in February 2020.

THE DISCOVERY AFTER THE WILDFIRE

The breakthrough came on Aug. 12, 2026, when a member of the public discovered human remains in shrubland near Padstow Walk in Feltham, west London.

The area had recently been affected by a wildfire.

The Metropolitan Police were called to the scene and initially opened a murder investigation after the remains were discovered.

Extensive forensic examination and DNA testing were later carried out.

On Sept. 17, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary confirmed the devastating result:

The remains belonged to Joanne Sheen.

JOANNE HAD BEEN MISSING SINCE 2019

Joanne was last seen after traveling from Fareham to Southampton on Dec. 5, 2019.

Her disappearance triggered a major investigation involving thousands of enquiries.

According to Hampshire Police, detectives have pursued more than 4,000 lines of enquiry, taken more than 300 statements, and carried out searches at more than 10 addresses as well as numerous vessels.

Specialist teams also searched waterways and woodland around Southampton.

Despite those efforts, Joanne remained missing for years.

Then the wildfire exposed a discovery that would finally identify what had happened to her.

A MAN HAS NOW BEEN ARRESTED

Following the identification, Hampshire Police arrested a 56-year-old man from Southampton on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder.

He remains in police custody while detectives continue their investigation.

Police have not publicly named him, and he has not been charged.

Authorities have stressed that the investigation is still ongoing as detectives work to establish exactly what happened to Joanne and how she came to be in Feltham, roughly 60 miles from Southampton.

THERE WERE EARLIER ARRESTS

Joanne’s disappearance had previously led to arrests.

Five people were arrested in 2020 on suspicion of conspiracy to murder, but they were subsequently released with no further action.

No one was charged in connection with Joanne’s disappearance at that time.

The latest arrest represents a significant new development in the long-running investigation.

POLICE SAY THE FAMILY DESERVES ANSWERS

Detective Chief Inspector Toby Elcock, from Hampshire Police’s Major Crime Team, described the discovery as a significant development in a “long and complex investigation.”

He said the identification may provide some answers after years of uncertainty and praised Joanne’s family for their strength and dignity.

But detectives say there is still much to establish.

How did Joanne end up in Feltham?

Who was responsible for her death?

And what happened during the years between her disappearance and the discovery of her remains?

Those questions remain at the heart of the investigation.

A £20,000 REWARD HAS BEEN REINSTATED

Police are now appealing again for information about Joanne’s movements before she disappeared, as well as information that could explain how she came to be in the Feltham area.

Crimestoppers has reinstated a reward of up to £20,000 for information that leads to the arrest of those responsible.

The reward is available for three months and is due to expire on Dec. 17, 2026.

AFTER SEVEN YEARS, THE SEARCH HAS CHANGED

For Joanne’s family, the discovery brings something they have been waiting for since 2019 — confirmation of what happened to her.

But it also leaves painful questions that investigators are still trying to answer.
