FAMILY MOURNS LITTLE GIRL WHO WAS TAKEN TOO SOON — HELLAYNA “LAYNA” KING WAS ONLY 4

A Kentucky family is mourning the heartbreaking loss of a little girl who was just weeks away from celebrating her fifth birthday.

Hellayna Michelle King, affectionately known as “Layna,” was only 4 years old when she died in a tragic tractor accident on Sept. 2 in Clark County, Kentucky.

According to Clark County Coroner Neal Oliver, Layna was riding on the back of a tractor on Red River Road when she fell from the vehicle. The tractor then accidentally backed over her.

A DAY THAT ENDED IN HEARTBREAK

Layna had been spending time around the family farm, a place she loved deeply.

Her obituary described her as a bright, lively child who brought happiness wherever she went.

She loved being outdoors, helping on the farm, singing her favorite songs and spending time with her grandparents.

Her family also remembered her special love for the farm’s cows.

But on Sept. 2, an ordinary day suddenly became a devastating one.

After Layna fell from the back of the tractor, relatives rushed to help and emergency services were called.

THE WAIT FOR HELP

The tragedy was made even more painful for the family because emergency responders faced difficulties reaching the scene.

A nearby bridge was closed, and according to Layna’s aunt LaDonna Lovings, it took approximately 45 minutes for emergency personnel to arrive.

Lovings later questioned whether the outcome could have been different if responders had been able to reach the family more quickly.

Officials have not publicly said that the emergency-response delay caused Layna’s death.

“THE FAMILY’S SUNSHINE”

For those who knew Layna, the little girl was much more than the circumstances surrounding her final day.

She was described as the family’s “sunshine” — a joyful child who loved singing, playing outside and being with the people she loved.

Her obituary captured the personality her family wants people to remember: energetic, happy and full of life.

She would have turned 5 years old on Oct. 5.

Instead of preparing for a birthday celebration, her family had to prepare for her funeral.

A FAMILY LEFT WITH MEMORIES

Layna’s funeral was held on Sept. 5.

Her loved ones are now left holding onto memories of a little girl whose life was far too short.

Her aunt expressed the overwhelming pain of having to say goodbye to a child who had been such an important part of the family.

A GoFundMe campaign was also created to help the family with expenses following Layna’s death.

For her parents, siblings, grandparents and extended family, the farm that once held so many happy memories has now become connected forever with the day they lost their little girl.

SHE WAS ONLY FOUR

Layna never got to celebrate her fifth birthday.

She never got to experience the years of childhood that were still waiting for her — more songs to sing, more days outside, more memories with her grandparents and more adventures on the farm she loved.

But her family says the joy she brought into their lives will remain.
