WELSH DAD DIES SUDDENLY DURING CYPRUS ANNIVERSARY HOLIDAY AS FIANCÉE PAYS HEARTBREAKING TRIBUTE

A Welsh father has died suddenly during an anniversary holiday in Cyprus, leaving his fiancée heartbroken and a family facing the devastating loss of a man who had been planning their future together.

Paulo Brockway, 44, from Cardiff, had travelled to Cyprus with his fiancée, Kerry Debono, to celebrate their three-year anniversary.

The couple had been enjoying their holiday and had even talked about returning to the island to get married.

But on the day they were due to fly home, Paulo suddenly became seriously ill.

He died the following day, September 17, 2026, according to a fundraising page established by Kerry.

A HOLIDAY THAT ENDED IN TRAGEDY

Kerry said the couple had been looking forward to returning home after their anniversary trip when Paulo suddenly fell ill.

She described the shock of losing him as overwhelming.

In comments reported by BBC Wales, Kerry said she was “absolutely devastated” and “heartbroken” by his sudden death.

The couple had reportedly fallen in love with Cyprus during their relationship.

Kerry said Paulo had told her during the trip that the island was the place where they should get married.

The couple even placed a lock on a bridge as a symbol of their relationship.

Instead of returning home together, Kerry was left facing the journey back to Wales without her fiancé.

PAULO SUFFERED A SERIOUS MEDICAL EMERGENCY

According to Kerry, doctors in Cyprus told her that Paulo had suffered a cardiac arrest following pancreatitis, a condition she said had not previously been diagnosed.

Earlier reports said Paulo initially became seriously unwell on the day the couple were due to leave Cyprus and was taken to hospital.

His condition deteriorated, and he died the following day.

The family has not publicly disclosed a more detailed medical explanation for his death.

Kerry said Paulo had been thriving and had appeared to have so much to look forward to.

“He had so much to live for,” she said, describing how quickly everything changed.

A MAN WHO FOUND A LOVE OF MOUNTAIN CLIMBING

In the years before his death, Paulo developed a passion for mountain climbing.

Kerry said he had taken up the hobby during their three-year relationship and had grown to love the challenge of reaching increasingly difficult peaks.

He also used his climbs to raise money for charity.

On his fundraising page, Kerry described climbing as something that gave Paulo goals to work towards and brought him tremendous happiness.

His family remembers him not only as an adventurous man, but also as a devoted father, son, brother and partner.

Paulo leaves behind a son, as well as his mother, sisters and brother.

His sudden death has left them struggling to understand how someone who had appeared to have so much ahead of him could be gone so quickly.

“I WILL LOVE AND MISS YOU FOREVER”

Kerry has described herself as devastated by the loss of her fiancé.

In the fundraiser she wrote that she would miss Paulo terribly and promised that her love for him would continue.

She also appealed for help with the cost of bringing his body home and arranging his funeral.

The fundraiser says Paulo did not have life insurance and that his funeral is expected to cost approximately £7,000.

His body was expected to be repatriated from Cyprus to Cardiff within seven to 10 days.

As of the latest available update, the fundraiser had raised £2,455 from 80 donations toward a £3,000 initial target.

Kerry said every donation, share or kind gesture would mean a great deal to the family.

Paulo’s family has also spoken about the shock of losing him at just 44.

His sister Samantha described him as a dad, loving fiancé, brother and son, saying he had achieved goals he had worked hard for and was excited about his future with Kerry.

The family said Paulo was particularly devoted to his son.

They are now having to grieve a man who had been making plans for marriage, enjoying a new passion for climbing and looking forward to many more years with the people he loved.

For Kerry, the memories of their final holiday are now inseparable from the sudden tragedy that followed.

They travelled to Cyprus to celebrate three years together.

They left facing a future they had never imagined.
