CHAD LOWE’S 13-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER FIONA DIED BY SUICIDE — FAMILY REMEMBERS HER AS “THE LIGHT OF OUR LIVES”
The death of Chad Lowe’s 13-year-old daughter, Fiona Hepler Lowe, has been officially ruled a suicide, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.
Fiona was pronounced dead at 1:14 a.m. on September 29 at a Los Angeles-area hospital, according to medical examiner records reported by PEOPLE and Page Six. Her manner of death was determined on October 1. The case remains open.
The heartbreaking update comes after Chad Lowe and his wife, producer Kim Painter, announced the death of their daughter and asked the public for privacy.
“We are deeply heartbroken by the loss of our beloved Fiona,” the family said in a statement.
They described Fiona as “a loving young girl who was smart, creative, and loved to dance.”
“She was adored by her sisters and she was deeply loved by her parents. In fact, she was the light of our lives,” they said.
FIONA WAS ONLY 13
Fiona was the middle child of Chad and Kim’s three daughters.
She was born in November 2012 and had celebrated her 13th birthday less than a year before her death.
Her older sister, Mabel, 17, and younger sister, Nixie, 10, were also mentioned in the family’s tribute.
The family has not publicly discussed the circumstances surrounding Fiona’s death beyond their statement.
Instead, they have asked for prayers and privacy as they try to cope with the loss of a child at such a young age.
“KEEP DANCING THROUGH LIFE”
Fiona’s love of dance was something her father had celebrated publicly.
When she turned 13 in November 2025, Chad shared a photograph of his daughter and wrote a loving birthday message encouraging her to “keep dancing through life.”
Those words now carry a painful significance for the family.
Fiona was remembered by her parents not through the circumstances of her death, but through the qualities they loved most about her — her creativity, intelligence, affection and love of dance.
Her grandfather, Chuck Lowe, also paid tribute to his granddaughter following the news, writing simply: “Rest in peace sweet Fiona.”
A FAMILY ALREADY FACING LOSS
Fiona’s death comes after the Lowe family experienced another major hardship.
In January 2025, the family’s home in Pacific Palisades was destroyed in the devastating Los Angeles wildfires.
Chad later shared a photograph of his three daughters looking at what remained of their home and praised the way they had handled the experience.
“The way they’ve handled this whole devastating experience is nothing short of remarkable,” he wrote at the time.
Now the family is facing another devastating loss.
HER SCHOOL ALSO MOURNS
Fiona’s death has also deeply affected the school community where she was a student.
According to Page Six, the school’s principal notified parents and students and arranged counselors to support children and staff grieving her death.
Fiona was described as a well-liked student with many friends.
Her family has asked that the focus remain on remembering the girl she was and the love she brought to those around her.
THE FAMILY’S MESSAGE TO OTHERS
In their statement announcing Fiona’s death, Chad and Kim also included information about the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, encouraging anyone struggling with mental health to seek help.
The message was particularly significant given that Fiona was only 13.
The family has not suggested that the public speculate about what she may have been experiencing, and they have asked for privacy during an extraordinarily painful time.
“THE LIGHT OF OUR LIVES”
For Hollywood audiences, Chad Lowe is known for his acting and directing career, while his brother is actor Rob Lowe.
But for Fiona, he was simply her father.
And for Chad and Kim, Fiona was not a celebrity story or a headline.
She was their daughter.
A girl who loved to dance.
A sister adored by Mabel and Nixie.
And, in her parents’ words, “the light of our lives.”
Her death has now been officially ruled a suicide, but her family is asking people to remember that her life was much more than the circumstances of her final days.
Fiona was 13 years old. Her family says she was deeply loved — and that is how they want her remembered.
