NEW COURT DETAILS EMERGE IN DR HANNAH TERRY CASE AS HUSBAND REMAINS IN CUSTODY

NEW COURT DETAILS EMERGE IN DR HANNAH TERRY CASE AS HUSBAND REMAINS IN CUSTODY
Prosecutors have outlined post-mortem findings in the case involving Norfolk GP Dr Hannah Cain, professionally known as Dr Hannah Terry. Her husband, Mark Cain, 45, has been charged with her murder and is awaiting further court proceedings.
The investigation into the death of a respected Norfolk doctor has entered a new stage, with prosecutors presenting further details during court hearings.
Dr Hannah Cain, 45, known professionally as Dr Hannah Terry, was found unresponsive at her home in Fern Hill, Dersingham, Norfolk, in the early hours of Sunday, October 4, 2026.
Emergency services attended the property after an ambulance call led to police being contacted. Dr Cain was discovered in an upstairs bedroom and was pronounced dead.
Her death has devastated her family, colleagues and patients, many of whom remember her for her dedication to medicine and the care she provided to others.
POST-MORTEM FINDINGS OUTLINED IN COURT
During proceedings at Norwich Magistrates’ Court, prosecutor Jackie Hanlon told the court that a post-mortem examination had identified a blunt-force injury to the right side of Dr Cain’s head.
The examination also noted an injury that could suggest compression of the neck.
These findings were presented as part of the court proceedings. Norfolk Police previously stated that the cause of death was pending further investigation.
The court also heard that children were present inside the property at the time of the incident.
The details have added to the distress surrounding the case, although the full circumstances of Dr Cain’s death remain subject to the ongoing legal process.
HUSBAND CHARGED AND REMANDED IN CUSTODY
Mark Cain, 45, was charged with his wife’s murder on October 6 and appeared at Norwich Magistrates’ Court the following day.
He later appeared at King’s Lynn Crown Court by video link from prison on October 8. During the brief hearing, he confirmed his identity but was not asked to enter a plea.
The judge remanded him in custody until December 3, 2026, when a plea hearing is provisionally scheduled at Norwich Crown Court.
No provisional trial date had been set in the latest reports.
The charge remains an allegation, and Mark Cain is entitled to a fair trial. The court proceedings will determine the case against him.
FAMILY PAYS TRIBUTE TO “OUR BEAUTIFUL HANNAH”
Beyond the legal developments, Dr Cain’s family is mourning the loss of a beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend.
In a statement, her family described her as “kind, generous and loving” and praised the care she gave to her patients.
Dr Cain worked at Grimston Medical Centre and also ran Norfolk Sky Aesthetics. According to her professional business website, she had been a qualified doctor for more than 15 years and had worked as a GP for eight years.
Her colleagues also paid tribute to her warmth, intelligence and generosity.
The medical centre temporarily closed following her death, citing the exceptionally difficult circumstances affecting its team.
Specialist police officers are supporting the family, who have asked for privacy as they grieve.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
The next significant court date is provisionally scheduled for December 3, when Mark Cain is expected to attend a plea hearing.
In the meantime, the investigation and legal proceedings will continue. The post-mortem findings presented in court form part of the evidence, but they do not by themselves establish the full circumstances or determine criminal responsibility.
For those who knew Dr Cain, the focus remains on remembering a doctor who devoted years to caring for her patients and a family member whose loss has left a profound void.
As the case moves forward, her loved ones have asked for space to grieve while the legal process takes its course.
The investigation continues, and the allegations against Mark Cain have yet to be tested at trial.
