HUMAN REMAINS FOUND JUST 15 MILES FROM NANCY GUTHRIE’S HOME — BUT POLICE SAY NO LINK HAS BEEN FOUND

A disturbing discovery near Tucson has renewed attention on the disappearance of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie.

Human remains were recently found in a desert area near West Ajo Way and South La Cholla Boulevard, approximately 15 miles from Nancy’s home.

The discovery immediately raised an obvious question:

COULD THE REMAINS BE CONNECTED TO NANCY?

But authorities are urging the public not to jump to that conclusion.

POLICE SAY THERE IS CURRENTLY NO CONNECTION

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said there is no indication at this time that the remains are connected to the investigation into Nancy’s disappearance. Officials also said the remains appeared to have been at the location for an extended period.

That means the discovery has not provided investigators with confirmation of what happened to Nancy.

Her case remains open.

NANCY HAS BEEN MISSING FOR MONTHS

Nancy was last seen in the early hours of February 1, when authorities believe she was taken from her Tucson-area home.

Investigators have continued examining evidence from the residence and surrounding area.

The investigation has included surveillance footage, DNA evidence and ransom notes that were sent to local media.

Recent testing of hair recovered from Nancy’s home reportedly did not identify a suspect, while investigators have continued seeking information that could lead them to the person responsible for her disappearance.

ONE DISCOVERY — BUT STILL NO ANSWER

The location of the remains is significant enough to attract attention because of its proximity to Nancy’s home.

But proximity alone does not establish a connection.

Authorities still need to determine the identity of the person whose remains were discovered and whether any evidence links that person to Nancy’s case.
