Lindsay Clancy Jury Still Deadlocked After Five Days of Deliberations

The jury weighing whether Lindsay Clancy was criminally responsible for the deaths of her three children ended its fifth day of deliberations on September 2 without reaching a verdict.

The latest deadlock marked the second consecutive time jurors have informed Judge William Sullivan that they have been unable to reach a consensus in the closely watched case.

After the jury reported that it remained divided, Judge Sullivan instructed the members to continue deliberating. He also delivered a special instruction commonly known as a “dynamite charge” or Tuey-Rodriguez charge.

The instruction is intended to encourage jurors to carefully reconsider one another’s positions and make a renewed effort to reach a unanimous decision. At the same time, jurors are reminded that they should not abandon their sincerely held convictions simply for the sake of reaching an agreement.

By Wednesday evening, the jury had spent approximately 29 hours deliberating over the question of Clancy’s criminal responsibility.

The jurors were dismissed for the night and are scheduled to return Thursday morning, September 3, to resume their discussions.

The central issue before the jury is not whether Clancy was responsible for the deaths themselves, but whether she should be held criminally responsible given the defense’s argument concerning her mental state at the time of the killings.

For now, the jury remains deadlocked, and no verdict has been reached.
