NHL Prospect Austin Roest Stands by Girlfriend Milly Okabe After Stage 4 Cancer Diagnosis
Nashville Predators prospect Austin Roest, 22, is standing by his girlfriend, former figure skater Milara “Milly” Okabe, 22, following her devastating diagnosis with stage 4 adenocarcinoma.
Roest, who was selected by the Nashville Predators in the sixth round of the 2023 NHL Draft, shared an emotional photo of Okabe from her hospital bed on September 4.

Alongside the photo, Roest expressed his commitment to staying by her side throughout her treatment. He also shared his belief that Okabe would overcome the illness, offering a message of hope and support as she faces the difficult road ahead.
Okabe has also spoken publicly about her diagnosis, sharing her experience with her followers and expressing gratitude for the family members and friends who have surrounded her with support.
The couple is now facing an extraordinarily challenging period as Okabe undergoes treatment for the advanced cancer.

For Roest, the situation has shifted the focus far beyond hockey. The young prospect is balancing his professional aspirations with his commitment to supporting the person closest to him as she confronts a serious illness.
Okabe’s decision to publicly share her diagnosis has also allowed those around her to rally behind her, with messages of encouragement coming from family, friends and supporters.
While the road ahead may be difficult, Roest’s public message made clear that he intends to remain beside Okabe throughout her treatment. His words offered reassurance during a deeply uncertain time and reflected the couple’s determination to face the challenge together.
For now, their attention remains on Okabe’s health and treatment, surrounded by the people who care about her most.
