10-Year-Old Girl Killed in Miami-Dade Hit-and-Run as Brother Remains Critical

A 10-year-old girl has died and her brother remains in critical condition after the siblings were struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run crash in northwest Miami-Dade, Florida.

The accident happened at approximately 8:40 p.m. on September 9, 2026, near NW 117th Street and NW 7th Avenue.

The siblings, identified as Peyton and her brother Brent, were riding an e-bike when they were struck by a vehicle. Instead of stopping to help, the driver fled the scene, according to authorities.

Peyton was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital with critical injuries. Despite efforts to save her, the 10-year-old later succumbed to her injuries.

Her brother, Brent, also suffered severe injuries and remained hospitalized in critical condition. His family reported that he has undergone surgery as doctors continue treating his injuries.

Investigators released a description of the vehicle believed to be involved in the crash. Police identified it as a silver or gray Nissan Versa, likely from model years 2009 through 2012.

The case took a significant step forward on September 12, when the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office announced that investigators had located and seized the suspected vehicle.

However, the person who was driving it had not yet been located, and the search for the driver remains ongoing.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the collision and are asking anyone with information about the crash or the driver’s whereabouts to come forward.

For Peyton’s family, the investigation comes as they mourn the loss of a 10-year-old girl while hoping for her brother’s recovery.

The case remains active, and no arrest had been announced in the latest update.
