THE VOICE UK INTRODUCES SHOCK ‘LOCKDOWN’ TWIST AFTER TOM JONES EXIT — HERE’S WHAT’S CHANGING

The Voice UK is heading into a major new era, with bosses reportedly introducing a dramatic “Lockdown Button” that could completely change what happens after a singer earns a four-chair turn.

The surprise format shake-up comes just days after ITV confirmed a brand-new coaching line-up for Series 15, following the departure of legendary coach Sir Tom Jones.

According to reports, the new button will be used when all four coaches turn their chairs for a contestant during the Blind Auditions.

Under the new twist, a coach could press the Lockdown Button to automatically secure the singer for their team.

That means the contestant would no longer necessarily get the familiar opportunity to sit back and listen to each coach make their pitch before choosing which team to join.

Instead, the decision could be taken out of the singer’s hands if a coach activates the new feature.

The new feature is reportedly replacing the Rewind Button, which was introduced during the current series but will not return for the next run.

The format change comes alongside one of the biggest line-up overhauls in the show’s history.

ITV has officially confirmed that Aitch and Cheryl will make their coaching debuts, joining returning international star Kelly Rowland and long-standing coach will.i.am.

The new series will also have a new presenting duo, with Alesha Dixon and Stacey Solomon taking over hosting duties.

ITV confirmed that Series 15 is scheduled to air in 2027.

TOM JONES’ SHOCK DEPARTURE

The changes follow the controversial departure of Sir Tom Jones, who had been part of The Voice UK since the show’s launch in 2012.

Jones, 86, publicly said he did not want to leave the programme and claimed that ITV had made the decision to remove him from the full-time coaching panel.

He said he had been told that financial difficulties involving insurance were part of the reason, while ITV publicly described the overhaul as a desire to “refresh” the show with a new coaching line-up.

An ITV spokesperson said the programme had loved working with Jones and confirmed that, although he would no longer be a full-time coach for Series 15, discussions about his possible involvement were continuing.

FANS ARE ABOUT TO SEE A VERY DIFFERENT SHOW

With Tom Jones gone, Cheryl and Aitch joining the panel, two new hosts taking over and the reported introduction of the Lockdown Button, the next series is shaping up to look very different from the version viewers have known for years.

The biggest question now is simple:

When all four chairs turn for the next big singer, which coach will hit the Lockdown Button — and will contestants still have the final say over where they go?

For The Voice UK, the familiar rules are changing — and fans will have to wait until the new series to see exactly how the twist plays out.
