BABY S CASE: FOUR PEOPLE TO STAND TRIAL OVER DEATH OF NEWBORN GIRL IN SHEFFIELD — COURT SETS 2027 TRIAL DATE

A heartbreaking case involving the death of a newborn baby girl in Sheffield has reached another major stage, with four people accused of murder now set to stand trial next year.

The infant, known only as Baby S, was found at a property in the Wincobank area of Sheffield, South Yorkshire, on August 30, 2026, shortly after her birth.

Her mother, Andrea Skopova, 20, is among four adults charged with murder alongside Peter Horvath Jr., 19, Peter Horvath Sr., 38, and Nina Horvathova, 37.

All four deny the allegations through the court process and remain in custody awaiting further proceedings.

BABY WAS BORN HOURS BEFORE POLICE WERE CALLED

Prosecutor Luke Hopkinson told an earlier hearing that Baby S was born during the early hours of August 30 at an address in Sheffield.

The prosecution said Skopova had given birth at 37 weeks and later attended hospital.

Medical staff subsequently contacted police shortly after 5 a.m. following concerns about the safety of the newborn.

Officers initially attended an address but did not find the baby there.

The child was later discovered at another property in Holywell Heights, Wincobank.

FOUR ADULTS FACE MURDER CHARGES

Skopova, Horvath Jr, Horvath Sr and Horvathova have all been charged with the murder of Baby S.

They also face charges relating to causing or allowing the death of a child and perverting the course of justice, in connection with allegations that the scene was cleaned.

A 15-year-old girl has separately been charged with perverting the course of justice. She cannot legally be identified because of her age.

The prosecution has alleged that Baby S suffered multiple injuries.

Because the case is now before the courts, those allegations will be tested during the forthcoming trial.

 EMOTIONAL COURT APPEARANCE

The four adult defendants appeared at Sheffield Crown Court on September 3.

The hearing was emotionally charged, with Skopova and the 15-year-old girl reported to have cried during proceedings.

Family members also attended the hearing, while Slovak interpreters were present for the defendants.

The court was told that Skopova is the mother of Baby S and that she was in a relationship with Peter Horvath Jr.

The baby’s father has not been identified publicly and prosecutors said Horvath Jr is not believed to be the father.

 FIVE PEOPLE NOW LINKED TO THE COURT CASE

The 15-year-old girl is facing a separate allegation of attempting to obstruct the course of justice.

Two other women, aged 26 and 37, who were previously arrested on suspicion of murder remain on bail, according to reports.

South Yorkshire Police have continued to investigate the circumstances surrounding Baby S’s death and have urged the public not to spread speculation that could interfere with the legal proceedings.

 TRIAL SET FOR APRIL 2027

Judge Sarah Wright has scheduled the main trial to begin on April 12, 2027.

The proceedings are expected to last approximately six to seven weeks.

The four adult defendants and the 15-year-old defendant have been remanded in custody, with another hearing scheduled for October 2, 2026.

For now, many of the most important questions surrounding Baby S’s final hours remain matters for the court to examine.

The case has shocked the Sheffield community, but the full circumstances will only be established through the evidence presented during the trial.

Baby S was only hours old when her life came to a tragic end. Now, more than six months later, the people accused in connection with her death will face court as the search for answers continues.
