THE VOICE UK INTRODUCES SHOCK ‘LOCKDOWN’ TWIST AFTER TOM JONES EXIT

Fans of The Voice UK are facing a major change to the show as bosses reportedly introduce a brand-new “Lockdown Button” following Sir Tom Jones’ departure from the coaching panel.

The singing competition is heading into a major shake-up, with a new line-up of coaches, new presenters and now a reported change to one of the most familiar moments in the Blind Auditions.

According to reports, the upcoming series will replace the current Rewind Button with a new feature known as the Lockdown Button.

How will the new Lockdown Button work?

The reported twist comes into play when a contestant receives the coveted four-chair turn, meaning all four coaches have turned around to claim the singer for their team.

Under the new format, one of the coaches could reportedly press the Lockdown Button to immediately secure the contestant for their team.

That would remove one of the show’s traditional moments.

Normally, when all four coaches turn, the singer gets to hear the coaches make their pitches before deciding which team they want to join.

With the reported Lockdown twist, however, a coach could effectively make that decision before the contestant gets the chance to choose.

The suspense would therefore shift from “Which coach will the singer pick?” to “Will one of the coaches use the Lockdown Button?”

The Rewind Button, which was introduced during the current series, is reportedly being dropped altogether.

A completely different Voice UK

The reported format change comes as The Voice UK undergoes one of its biggest line-up changes in years.

ITV has officially confirmed that Aitch and Cheryl will join returning coach Kelly Rowland and longtime coach will.i.am for Series 15.

The new series will also have a new presenting team, with Alesha Dixon and Stacey Solomon taking over hosting duties.

Their arrival follows the departures of Sir Tom Jones, Tom Fletcher, Danny Jones and Emma Willis.

ITV described the changes as a brand-new line-up for the programme and thanked Tom Jones for his years on the show.

Series 15 is scheduled to air in 2027.

Tom Jones’ emotional departure

Tom Jones had been one of the defining faces of The Voice UK since the programme launched in 2012.

The Welsh music legend recently confirmed that he did not want to leave the programme.

Jones said he loved the show and appreciated its audience, while reports indicated that ITV had offered him a reduced role before he ultimately departed as a regular coach.

His exit has added another layer of interest to an already dramatic overhaul of the competition.

With Cheryl and Aitch joining Kelly Rowland and will.i.am, viewers will see a completely different coaching panel when the new series arrives.

And if the reported Lockdown Button is introduced as planned, even the way contestants choose their teams could look very different.

For longtime fans, the biggest question may now be whether the new twist makes the Blind Auditions more unpredictable — or changes one of the show’s most recognizable traditions for good.
