15-YEAR-OLD TWIN KILLED IN NYC BIKE CRASH REMEMBERED BY FRIENDS AND FAMILY

Friends and family are remembering Daria Serkov, a 15-year-old New York City girl whose life was cut short when she was struck by a commercial truck while riding a bicycle in Manhattan.

Daria, who was an 11th-grade student at the Lab School, was killed on the evening of September 18, 2026, in the East Village.

She was riding on a bicycle with another teenage girl when the pair were struck by a commercial truck at the intersection of East 14th Street and First Avenue, according to the NYPD.

The crash happened at around 9 p.m., as the truck was traveling west on East 14th Street and turning right onto First Avenue. The two teenagers were also attempting to make the turn when the collision occurred.

Daria suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead after being taken to Bellevue Hospital.

The other girl, 16, was hospitalized with a leg injury and was reported to be in stable condition.

A FAMILY LEFT WITHOUT THEIR TWIN DAUGHTER

Daria was the twin sister of Greta Serkov and the daughter of Irina and Alex Serkov.

Her family described her as a girl filled with “love, joy, and energy,” saying they would carry her light, compassion and love with them forever.

Daria lived in the nearby Stuyvesant Town-Peter Cooper Village community and was known among friends for her energetic personality and love of sports.

She played soccer and tennis, and friends have continued sharing photographs and memories of her in the days following the crash.

For her twin sister, family and close friends, the loss has been especially devastating.

FRIENDS GATHER FOR A HEARTBREAKING VIGIL

The day after the crash, friends, classmates and community members gathered near the intersection where Daria died.

Candles, flowers and photographs were placed at a growing memorial as teenagers and adults came together to mourn.

Hundreds of people gathered during a candlelight vigil, with many embracing one another as they struggled to process the loss of a teenager who was only 15.

Christine Janssen, who helped organize the vigil, described the gathering as a way for young people to support one another after the tragedy.

“These kids just need to be together,” she said.

A GoFundMe campaign was created to help the Serkov family with funeral costs and other expenses following Daria’s death.

The fundraiser said the goal was to support her parents and twin sister during what it described as an unimaginable loss.

The campaign’s message emphasized that while money could never change what happened, the support of friends, family and neighbors could help the family through the difficult days ahead.

INVESTIGATION INTO THE CRASH CONTINUES

The truck involved in the crash belonged to Badger Infrastructure Solutions.

The company said it was devastated by the death of the teenager and extended its condolences to Daria’s family and friends.

The company also said it was cooperating fully with the NYPD and other authorities investigating the collision.

The NYPD’s Highway District Collision Investigation Squad is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

As of the latest reports, no charges had been filed against the truck driver.

The tragedy has also renewed discussion about cyclist and pedestrian safety at the intersection.

Transportation advocates and local residents have called attention to the dangers faced by cyclists in the area, while friends and classmates have continued to gather in memory of Daria.
