ROYAL GP FOUND DEAD DURING CHILDREN’S SLEEPOVER — HUSBAND APPEARS IN COURT CHARGED WITH MURDER
Dr Hannah Cain, known professionally as Dr Hannah Terry, was found unconscious in an upstairs bedroom at her home near Sandringham. Her husband, Mark Cain, has now been charged with her murder.
A respected GP who was reportedly part of a medical team serving members of the British Royal Family was found dead at her home near the Sandringham Estate — while children were staying at the property for a sleepover.
Dr Hannah Cain, 45, known professionally as Dr Hannah Terry, was found in an upstairs bedroom at the family home in Fern Hill, Dersingham, Norfolk, in the early hours of Sunday, October 4.
Her husband, Mark Cain, 45, has since been charged with her murder.
The case came before Norwich Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, where Cain spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth. He was not asked to enter a plea and was remanded in custody.
PARAMEDICS FOUND HER UNCONSCIOUS UPSTAIRS
The court heard that emergency services were called to the property at around 2.20am.
Prosecutor Jacqui Hanlon told the court that the ambulance service contacted police at approximately 2.25am after Hannah was found “not breathing, not conscious” in an upstairs bedroom.
Paramedics attended the property before police became involved.
The court was also told that children were present inside the home at the time.
The discovery prompted a major police investigation, with officers establishing a cordon around the property as detectives began examining what had happened.
POST-MORTEM REVEALS HEAD INJURY
During the court hearing, prosecutors disclosed preliminary findings from a post-mortem examination.
The examination noted a blunt-force injury to the right side of Hannah’s head and another injury that could be suggestive of compression of the neck.
The details were presented in court as part of the prosecution case against Mark Cain.
Police have not publicly disclosed a motive, and the full circumstances surrounding Hannah’s death remain under investigation.
SHE WAS REPORTEDLY A DOCTOR FOR THE ROYAL FAMILY
Hannah Cain worked as a GP at Grimston Medical Centre and was known professionally to patients as Dr Hannah Terry.
According to reports, she was part of a pool of doctors who were regularly available to members of the Royal Family when they were staying at nearby Sandringham.
The medical centre is located close to the royal estate, while the family home where Hannah was found is just over a mile from Sandringham House.
Reports have also said she had previously treated Queen Camilla.
The Royal Family has reportedly been informed of her death, although there has been no public statement from Buckingham Palace about the case.
A MOTHER OF THREE
Away from her medical career, Hannah was a mother of three boys.
Reports said the family had been hosting a children’s sleepover at their home when the tragedy unfolded. Other children who had been staying at the property were later taken back to their families while police investigated.
The circumstances surrounding the children’s presence at the house have not been fully detailed in court.
Hannah’s family described her as a “kind, generous and loving” woman who was deeply devoted to her family and her work.
They also praised the care she provided to her patients, who knew her as Dr Terry.
HER MEDICAL CENTRE HAS TEMPORARILY CLOSED
News of Hannah’s death sent shockwaves through the local medical community.
Grimston Medical Centre temporarily closed following the tragedy, telling patients that it was facing “extremely difficult circumstances affecting our practice team.”
Colleagues and patients have paid tribute to Hannah, describing her as a caring and dedicated doctor.
Her family has asked the public to respect their privacy as they grieve. Specialist officers are supporting them, according to Norfolk Police.
HUSBAND REMANDED IN CUSTODY
Mark Cain was arrested following the discovery of Hannah’s body and was subsequently charged with murder.
At his appearance in Norwich Magistrates’ Court, he was not required to enter a plea.
The judge ordered that he remain in custody and sent the case to King’s Lynn Crown Court, where he is due to appear for the next stage of proceedings.
The investigation remains active, and detectives are continuing to establish the exact circumstances surrounding Hannah’s death.
For now, the case remains an allegation before the courts.
Mark Cain has been charged with murder but has not been convicted. The allegations against him will have to be tested through the criminal justice process.
Hannah’s family, meanwhile, is mourning a woman they described not simply as a doctor, but as a beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt, daughter-in-law and friend.
Her patients knew her as Dr Terry.
To those closest to her, she was simply Hannah.
