CONJOINED TWIN INFLUENCERS DIE AGED 27 AFTER MEDICAL EMERGENCY WHILE CHASING THEIR DREAM OF WALKING
COLOMBIA — Two Ecuadorian brothers who inspired hundreds of thousands of people with their determination to overcome physical challenges have died at the age of 27, just months after travelling abroad in pursuit of a lifelong dream.
José Luis and José Armando Cevallos Herrera, widely known online as the Conjoined Twins of Ecuador, died in the early hours of October 15, 2026, after suffering medical emergencies while receiving treatment in Colombia.
The brothers had travelled from Ecuador to undergo specialist rehabilitation designed to improve their mobility. Their goal was to achieve greater independence and, if possible, learn to walk on their own.
But their journey ended in tragedy after José Luis reportedly became seriously ill, followed by a cardiac emergency involving his brother. Both died in hospital in Zipaquirá, near Bogotá.
The precise medical causes of their deaths have not been officially confirmed.
THEIR FINAL DAYS WERE FILLED WITH HOPE
Just days before their deaths, the brothers shared a video showing their rehabilitation progress.
In the footage, they could be seen practising standing with assistance, offering followers a glimpse of the determination that had defined their lives.
For years, José Luis and José Armando had spoken openly about their dream of walking independently. Their journey was not simply about physical rehabilitation; it was about pushing beyond limitations and showing others that disability did not have to prevent them from pursuing meaningful goals.
Their sudden deaths have made those final images particularly emotional for the thousands of people who followed their progress online.
A MEDICAL EMERGENCY CLAIMED BOTH BROTHERS
According to accounts shared by family members and a close friend with the media, José Luis began feeling unwell on October 14, reportedly experiencing vomiting and urinary problems before his condition deteriorated.
Family friend Fernando Carrillo said José Luis suffered cardiac arrest and was initially stabilised by medical staff.
José Armando reportedly experienced a heart attack shortly afterward. Both brothers subsequently died.
Their older brother, Damián Cevallos, later spoke about the devastating impact of the loss on their family, saying their parents were struggling to cope with the tragedy.
The brothers’ social media team announced their deaths in a heartfelt statement, thanking the people who had supported them throughout their lives and asking for privacy for their grieving loved ones.
TWO BROTHERS WHO FACED LIFE TOGETHER
Born in Ecuador on September 8, 1999, José Luis and José Armando were conjoined twins who shared a body at the chest and pelvis.
Throughout childhood, they faced considerable challenges with movement and coordination. They gradually developed ways to move around, including using wheeled boards to help them navigate their surroundings.
Rather than allowing their circumstances to define their future, they began sharing their experiences on social media, answering questions and showing followers what everyday life looked like for them.
Their openness helped them build a substantial audience, including more than 837,000 followers on TikTok and over 60,000 on Instagram, according to published reports.
They discussed the difficulties they encountered, from physical limitations to the reactions of strangers, while encouraging others to approach life with determination and optimism.
Their message reached far beyond Ecuador, connecting with people who admired their resilience and the closeness of their relationship.
THEY NEVER GAVE UP ON THEIR DREAMS
The brothers travelled to Colombia in April 2026 for specialist rehabilitation and continued documenting their progress online.
Despite their wish to improve their mobility, they had reportedly ruled out surgical separation. They embraced their shared life and spoke affectionately about the bond they had maintained since birth.
José Luis previously reflected that, if given the opportunity to be born again, he would still choose to be a conjoined twin.
For José Armando, sharing his life with his brother was a precious gift.
Their story was not one of waiting for life to become easier. It was about finding ways to move forward together, adapting to challenges and celebrating every achievement along the way.
A FINAL MESSAGE THAT WILL LIVE ON
Following the announcement of their deaths, tributes poured in from followers and supporters who had watched the brothers pursue their dreams.
Their social media team expressed gratitude to everyone who had encouraged them, helped them achieve their goals and shared in their journey.
The statement also highlighted the motto that had come to represent their outlook on life:
“Where there’s a will, there’s a way, and disability is no impediment to being happy.”
For their family, the loss of both brothers is immeasurable. For the people who followed their journey, their story remains a reminder of perseverance, brotherhood and the importance of appreciating every opportunity life offers.
José Luis and José Armando spent 27 years facing the world side by side. Although their journey ended far sooner than their loved ones could have imagined, the message they shared with thousands of people will continue to inspire those who remember them.
May José Luis and José Armando Cevallos Herrera rest in peace. 🕊️
