As police in Hawaii are investigating the circumstances that led to Southwest Airlines flight attendant Jenny Lupton’s unexpected death during a layover, her family said that even evidence in the investigation shows just how loving and outgoing she was.

Speaking with CBS affiliate KWTV, based in Lupton’s home state of Oklahoma, her niece, Hannah, shared that she has spoken with people who saw her aunt the night before she apparently fell from a balcony on the 24th floor of her hotel room in Waikiki.

Friends, fellow flight attendants and a tattoo artist who worked with Lupton, 50, all told Hannah that she was happy and having a good time before her death.

“She was even texting one of the other flight attendants asking, ‘What are we doing tomorrow?’ ” Hannah told KWTV. “And that was her last text.”

Hannah shared that her aunt was known for being a doting mom to her 15-year-old son and was a social butterfly wherever she went. She recalled that Lupton would often chat with passengers on all her flights and would even lead an entire cabin in song.

“She was amazing with the passengers,” Hannah told the news station. “She loved to have fun with them… It wasn’t really a job. It was her life.”

“Jenny is not with us anymore, but it’s hard to process,” she continued. “And I think the direction of grieving definitely changes with that answer.”

On Aug. 20, Jenny, 50, was found dead at a hotel in Waikiki and Hawaiian authorities told her family that she died from an apparent fall. The Honolulu Police Department’s investigation remains ongoing, while a local medical examiner said her official cause and manner of death have yet to be determined, noting that a final determination could take several months.

Southwest Airlines previously confirmed to PEOPLE that Lupton died during a layover.

Hannah remembered her aunt as someone who loved hosting, cooking, gardening, sports and traveling, telling KWTV that Jenny often channeled those things into her son’s life by helping with banquets, fundraisers and more for his football and baseball teams.

“We have been very surprised by the outpour of love and just support that we’ve gotten, especially not just from here in Oklahoma, but around the world,” Hannah said.

“She loved making people feel special,” her niece continued. “And she definitely made me feel that way. And so I feel kind of led to do that as well.”

The Honolulu Police Department told KWTV its homicide detectives are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding her death by conducting interviews, recovering and reviewing surveillance video and examining evidence.

Lupton’s family does not believe that she died by suicide and has called for further investigation, CBS affiliate KWTV previously reported. They are also looking to go to Hawaii to bring her back home.

“The timeline doesn’t make sense, and we are afraid that maybe there was foul play,” Lupton’s sister, Tresa, told the outlet. “She just went out with one of her flight attendant friends, and they danced and had a good time. She had gotten a tattoo while she was there.”

In a news release previously shared with PEOPLE, the Honolulu Police Department said that its detectives were working with Lupton’s family amid the investigation.

“This is a thorough investigation that will take time,” the statement read. “Detectives are conducting numerous interviews, reviewing and recovering surveillance video, and examining evidence as part of the investigative process.”

Police later added, “On behalf of Jenny Lupton’s family, we ask for patience as detectives conduct this investigation and respectfully request that the family’s privacy be honored during this difficult time.”

The outpouring of support for Jenny’s family from the community has included a GoFundMe and a MealTrain. Hannah previously told PEOPLE during an interview that she wants the world to remember her late aunt as someone who loved everyone.

“She cared so deeply about everyone around her and how they felt, and she loved to see joy in people’s faces and make them happy,” Hannah said. “She loved to have fun herself, and she loved being a mother more than anything else. I know she would want everyone around her that’s grieving her to celebrate in the memories.”
