Pauline Hanson has doubled down after delivering a personal attack on Anthony Albanese’s late mother, declaring it was “not on” that she lived in public housing for decades.
Mr Albanese was raised by his mother, Maryanne, who lived on a disability pension because of chronic arthritis until her death from a brain aneurysm in 2002 at the age of 65.

The pair lived in social housing in Camperdown in Sydney’s inner west, an upbringing Mr Albanese has spoken frequently of.

“It says a lot about our great country that a son of a single mum who was a disability pensioner, who grew up in public housing down the road in Camperdown, can stand before you tonight as Australia’s prime minister,” Mr Albanese said in his 2022 election victory speech.

In a podcast interview with Karl Stefanovic published in February, Senator Hanson labelled Mr Albanese “pathetic” for referencing his childhood in public housing.

“I actually grew up in a street where we had housing commission houses there. It was a helping hand to those people, but they had jobs. And they worked,” she said at the time.

“Housing commission houses should not be there for people to live in them for 30, 40 (years) – and he said his mother lived in the same one she was born in for 65 years.

“Sorry, that is not on, to me. It should be limited time, you have been given a hand up, move it on to the next ones coming through.”

On Friday, the One Nation leader doubled down on her comments, insinuating the Prime Miniser frequently complained of his childhood.
