A desperate search that brought more than 1,000 people together has taken a heartbreaking turn after police recovered the body of a child from a pond in Brantham, Suffolk.
Three-year-old Noah Woods disappeared on Tuesday afternoon after becoming separated from a relative while visiting a playground on Merriam Close in Brantham.
Police said CCTV showed Noah’s last confirmed sighting at around 2:37 p.m., when he appeared to run down an alley beside the playground towards a nearby new-build housing estate.
SPECIALIST TEAMS MADE THE DISCOVERY
On Wednesday afternoon, specialist police dive teams searching Decoy Pond recovered the body of a child.
Suffolk Police confirmed that formal identification has not yet taken place, but Noah’s family has been informed.
Superintendent Tom Pearse said the discovery is currently being treated as not suspicious but unexplained, with the coroner due to be informed.
The development came after an enormous search operation involving specialist officers, search dogs, helicopters, coastguard teams, fire and rescue personnel and volunteers.
A COMMUNITY UNITED IN THE SEARCH
More than 1,000 members of the public joined the effort to locate Noah, with some travelling from outside the area to help.
Search teams examined the village, surrounding properties and open areas while police reviewed CCTV, doorbell footage and other potential evidence.
Noah was described by police as non-verbal, partially hearing impaired and undergoing an autism assessment, meaning he might not respond if his name was called.
His disappearance prompted an extraordinary response from the local community, with volunteers gathering at a makeshift search headquarters and working alongside emergency services.
POLICE ASK FOR PRIVACY FOR NOAH’S FAMILY
Superintendent Pearse thanked the public for their overwhelming support but urged people to give Noah’s family time, space and privacy following the latest development.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not released a cause of death or any further details about the circumstances surrounding the discovery.
For now, formal identification and the coroner’s process remain important next steps.
