POLICE UNCOVERED MORE THAN A TRAGEDY AT THIS SHEFFIELD HOME — AND ONE DETAIL ABOUT THE 19-YEAR-OLD DEFENDANT RAISED NEW QUESTIONS

What began as a police call over the safety of a newborn baby has developed into one of the most disturbing investigations in Sheffield.

On Aug. 30, officers were called to a property on Holywell Heights in the Wincobank area after concerns were raised about an infant.

Inside an outbuilding, investigators discovered a newborn girl, known in court only as Baby S, dead on top of a washing machine.

A forensic post-mortem later established that she died from stab wounds.

Court proceedings revealed that the baby had suffered 33 wounds from 15 separate stabbings, including injuries to her face and torso, front and back. She had reportedly been wrapped in a towel and placed inside a blue bag before being left in the outbuilding.

FOUR ADULTS FACE MURDER CHARGES

Four adults have now been charged with murder:

• Andrea Skopova, 20, the baby’s mother
• Peter Horvath Jr., 19
• Peter Horvath Sr., 38
• Nina Horvathova, 37

All four are also charged with causing or allowing the death of a child and perverting the course of justice by allegedly taking steps to conceal what happened.

A 15-year-old girl has separately been charged with perverting the course of justice. Because she is a minor, her identity is legally protected.

Two other women, aged 26 and 37, were arrested on suspicion of murder but remain on bail and have not been charged.

THE DETAIL ABOUT PETER HORVATH JR.

One of the most closely watched defendants is 19-year-old Peter Horvath Jr.

Horvath Jr. is Skopova’s boyfriend and is the son of Peter Horvath Sr. and Nina Horvathova.

But prosecutors revealed another important detail in court:

Horvath Jr. is not believed to be Baby S’s father.

The baby’s biological father remains unknown.

That detail has added another unanswered question to an already deeply disturbing case.

The court has not publicly established who the baby’s biological father is, nor has it publicly explained the individual role each defendant allegedly played in the baby’s death.

A CASE THAT HAS SHOCKED SHEFFIELD

South Yorkshire Police have urged the public not to speculate online while the criminal proceedings are active.

Detective Chief Inspector Tom Woodward described the investigation as complex and thanked the local community for its support, while stressing the importance of protecting the integrity of the legal process.

All five defendants have been remanded in custody.

The four adults and the teenage defendant are due to return to court, with the murder trial scheduled to begin on April 12, 2027 and expected to last six to seven weeks.

For now, many of the most important questions remain unanswered.

Who was Baby S’s father?

What happened inside the Holywell Heights property before police arrived?

And what role, if any, did each of the five defendants allegedly play?

Those questions will ultimately have to be answered in court.

All four adults are accused and have not been convicted. The 15-year-old defendant also remains legally presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
