The grieving mother of A66 crash victim Michael Cahill has made an emotional plea for friends and mourners to come together and give her son the farewell she believes he deserves.

Kelly Cahill, whose 23-year-old son was among five young men who died in the devastating A66 collision, has invited friends and supporters to attend a memorial gathering in his honour.

Her message was simple but deeply emotional.

She urged people to bring “bikes, jeeps, cars, quads” to the gathering and asked them to help give Michael the send-off she wanted for her son.

A MOTHER’S FINAL TRIBUTE

Michael was one of five young men travelling in a Volkswagen Passat when it collided with a marked Cleveland Police vehicle on the A66 near Middlesbrough on August 22.

Michael, 23, died alongside Jakub Matusiak, 23, Cole Worthy, 17, Theo Rae, 17, and Makai Saddington, 18.

The two police officers travelling in the marked vehicle, PC Matthew Blades, 37, and PC Tom Clough, 38, also lost their lives.

Police said the Passat had been travelling against the flow of traffic before the devastating collision.

For Michael’s family, the aftermath has been dominated by grief.

Now his mother wants the focus to return to her son and the people who loved him.

Her planned memorial gathering was announced for a field in Peterlee, County Durham, where friends were invited to come together for a balloon release in Michael’s memory.

Kelly’s emotional appeal called on Michael’s friends to turn up with their vehicles.

Two police officers were among the dead, alongside the five occupants of the Passat.
