FAMILY MOURNS 4-YEAR-OLD GIRL WHO DIED IN TRACTOR ACCIDENT

A Kentucky family is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 4-year-old Hellayna Michelle King, a little girl remembered for her bright personality, love of farm life and joyful singing.

Hellayna, affectionately known as “Layna,” died on September 2 after an accident involving a tractor on Red River Road in Clark County, Kentucky, according to Clark County Coroner Neal Oliver. She was just one month away from her fifth birthday.

According to the coroner, Layna was riding on the back of a tractor when she fell off and was accidentally struck as the tractor backed up.

Her family has been left devastated by the loss of a child they described as full of energy and happiness.

Layna’s obituary remembered her as a lively little girl who loved spending time outdoors and helping her grandparents on the farm. The farm held a special place in her heart, and she especially loved the cows.

She also loved to sing, filling the family’s days with her voice and cheerful spirit.

“Layna” would have celebrated her fifth birthday on October 5. Instead, her family gathered to say goodbye at her funeral on September 5.

Her aunt, LaDonna Lovings, described Layna as the family’s “sunshine” and spoke about the unimaginable pain of losing her.

The family also said emergency responders took about 45 minutes to reach the scene because a nearby bridge was closed, forcing responders to take a longer route. Lovings said she could not know whether a faster response would have changed the outcome, but the delay made an already devastating situation even more painful.

The bridge closure has reportedly been an ongoing concern for people living in the area. Officials have said CSX Transportation and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet are working on plans for a replacement bridge.

For Layna’s family, however, the focus remains on remembering the little girl she was — a beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter and member of a family that will now have to celebrate milestones without her.

Her life lasted only four years, but the memories she left behind will remain with those who loved her.

A fundraiser was also established by the family to help with funeral-related expenses and an urn for Layna.
