TWO BRITISH WOMEN KILLED IN ROMANIA CRASH WHILE TRANSPORTING RESCUE DOGS — FATHER PAYS HEARTBREAKING TRIBUTE

Two British women who were travelling through Romania as part of a dog-rescue mission have died in a devastating multi-vehicle crash, along with eight of the dogs they were transporting.

Allison Condon, 61, from Northamptonshire, and Rachael Harvey-Purkiss, 41, from Essex, were travelling in a UK-registered minibus on Thursday when it was involved in a collision with two trucks and another vehicle on the DN 6 road in western Romania.

The women were reportedly carrying 10 dogs as part of an animal rescue journey organized on behalf of the British non-profit Homeward Bound. Eight of the dogs are reported to have died in the crash, while two are believed to have survived.

A TRIP TO HELP RESCUE DOGS ENDS IN TRAGEDY

The fatal collision happened in Caraș-Severin County, in western Romania near the Serbian border.

According to Romanian authorities, initial checks indicated that the crash involved two trucks and a minibus. Emergency crews rushed to the scene, where the two women were found inside the badly damaged minibus.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

The drivers of the other vehicles involved in the crash were treated by emergency responders but were not taken to hospital, according to reports.

Images from the scene showed the severity of the collision, with emergency workers surrounding the wreckage and working to recover those involved.

The crash also caused significant disruption on the road as emergency services dealt with the aftermath.

“TWO BEAUTIFUL RARE DIAMONDS”

News of the deaths prompted an outpouring of grief from people connected with animal rescue.

Teresa Shears, a spokesperson for Homeward Bound, described Allison and Rachael as “two beautiful rare diamonds,” saying their hearts were filled with love and care for animals.

She also paid tribute to the dogs who died during the journey.

The organization said the women would never be forgotten.

Their deaths have left fellow animal rescuers mourning two people who had dedicated their time to helping vulnerable animals.

RACHAEL’S FATHER SHARES FINAL PHOTO

For Rachael’s family, the tragedy has brought an especially painful loss.

Her father, Paul, shared what he said was the final photograph he received of his daughter shortly before the crash.

Alongside the image, he paid tribute to Rachael and thanked people for their messages of support.

He also called for the work of rescuing dogs to continue despite the devastating loss.

“My beautiful daughter Rachael RIP,” he wrote.

The photograph has become a deeply personal reminder of Rachael for her family as they cope with her sudden death.

INVESTIGATION UNDERWAY

Romanian police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.

A manslaughter investigation has reportedly been launched as authorities work to establish exactly how the four-vehicle crash occurred.

At this stage, police have not publicly released a complete reconstruction of the events leading up to the collision.

The British Foreign Office said it had not been approached for assistance but that its staff remain available to support British nationals overseas.

For the families of Allison and Rachael, and for the animal-rescue community they were part of, the journey that began as an effort to give vulnerable dogs a new chance has ended in unimaginable tragedy.

Two women who travelled to help animals will now be remembered by their loved ones and fellow rescuers for the compassion they brought to that work.
