9-Year-Old Washington Boy Refuses to Follow Tired Mother’s Orders and Saves Her Life After She Dismisses Severe Chest Pains as Simple Newborn Exhaustion
Kimberly Smith had her hands full as a single mother of three. When she woke up one morning feeling unwell, she knew that being sick was not an option. But as she plowed on through her day, her symptoms grew worse. When her son came home from school, all she wanted was for him to do as he was told so that she could take a break. This time, however, he refused to listen.

It was on March 2nd, 2017, that Kimberly woke up with a sharp pain in her chest. Breathing was difficult and her limbs felt weighed down. She thought the symptoms might be related to a recent bout of pneumonia, but with a newborn son to care for, stopping to rest was out of the question. On top of the pneumonia, Kimberly had given birth to baby Dylan via cesarean section just a few weeks prior. Convinced her symptoms were a combination of illness, surgery recovery, and exhaustion, the 32-year-old waited for her older sons to get home so she could nap.
Any mom would appreciate an extra pair of hands, and Kimberly was lucky that her older sons were eager to help. Nine-year-old Camden in particular had proven himself incredibly helpful with the newborn, making bottles at feeding time and even changing diapers. But it was not only his baby brother that Camden watched over; he looked out for his mother too.

When he came home from school in Sedro-Woolley, Washington, he knew something was wrong. His mother was clutching her chest and experiencing a sharp, stabbing pain with every breath. Although Camden was deeply concerned, she insisted all she needed was a nap. He took the baby so she could rest, but the boy remained unconvinced. Seeing her pain, he knew she needed urgent medical help and refused to let her sleep.
